High Altitude Riding

I am planning to take a trip the latter part of September from Boise Idaho to Wichita Kansas and want to get an idea of how the Voyager XII does at high altitude. My plan is to go through Utah down to I-70 and take it all the way to Salina Kansas. There are spots along I-70 in Colorado that are 8000 ft and above in elevation. Will the Voyager still have sufficient power to accelerate up that high or will it become a slug?

I live at 4100 feet elevation and have ridden to around 7700 feet and noticed nothing. Plenty of power.

Several times I have ridden in the Sierra's and the Rockies at elevations of 9,000' - 12,000'. You need more passing room but the XII runs great at these altitudes. I've gotten some of my best gas mileages at altitude! My suggestion is don't worry about it.

Thanks for the support guys. I feel much better about taking that route now. I could go through Wyoming but there is absolutely no scenery except for a stray antelope or bison here and there.

The Voyager XII is equipped with constant velocity carburetors which started to be popular around 1980 on Japanese multi cylinder machines. Honda was using them as early as 1969, that I can remember. They are designed to self adjust for altitude changes. Just some FYI from an old guy living at sea level. :cry2:

I live in Colorado and have ridden "Ruby" across Rocky Mountain National Park and up Trail Ridge Road with no problems. It also had good power. Yours may run on the rich side above 7,500 feet, but should still run fine. That is a great trip. I am jealous!
