Engine Noise?
OK, first I know nothing about engines or motorcycles. Lets get that out of the way. Here goes. I have a 1994 Voyager that has been converted into a trike. When I pull the clutch in and coast anywhere from 10 to 15 mph i hear a clciking sound. I can feel it in the gear shift. I can hear it and feel it when i shut the engine off and coast as well. The bike runs great. I can shift just fine. I don't hear the noise as i am riding down the road. Only when I pull the clutch in and coast. Not sure if the clutch plates are messed up or if the crankshaft is having issues. I took it to two different mechanics and they said they couldn't hear anything. They said they couldn't fix anything that they can't find. It's funny because when I took it to them I couldn't hear it either. Matter of fact I just got it back from the mechanic today and he said he couldn't hear the noise. But it's there. My grandson had his helmet on this eveing and I pulled the clutch in to come to a stop and he asked me what the noise was. It seems to be worse in 1st and second. I also hear it if i am in neutral and coast to a stop. My concern is if i keep riding it what kind of damage am i doing. Not sure if it's the clutch, to end, crankshaft, cams. I have no idea. I know this is pretty vague but i was hoping has had a similar issue.

Re: Engine Noise?
Noises have a funny way of annoying you, and also hard to track down. You said you could feel and hear it with engine off, so that should remove the engine from places to look.
Does the noise change speed as you slow down, or is it at a constant tempo no matter the speed of movement?

Re: Engine Noise?
Could it be the clutch not quite disengaged? What on the bike, besides the tires, rotate when your moving down the road, with the engine turned off? The drive shaft for sure. Could the transmission be going bad. But it rides great when I'm going down the road. No problem shifting gears. At least none that I have noticed.

Re: Engine Noise?
It appears to be something in the bevel gear assembly. Had someone else look at it today.

Re: Engine Noise?
Bevel gear maybe? but trikes are very hard on u-joints, driveshaft and splined connections parts. If you have a good trike shop it would be best to have them check it out. With noise & engine off, could be in rear (Trike end) more than likely imho.
