Leaving Phoenix, I had decided to take an extra day and a camera to see eastern utah and travel through western Colorado, staying the night in Montrose, CO.
Let's just say it didn't go as planned.
I stopped approximately an hour up I-17 (Prescott, AZ exit) at a Mcdonalds to make room for and buy a cup of coffee. 10 minutes later (quite a line of people that morning) I came out to get back on the bike and there was an over a foot wide oil slick under the bike (2003) and it was growing.
Thank you ROK insurance as I was home again after no cost for the Tow truck.
Anyway, my wife let me use her 97 V800a to make the trip (but with a lot less stuff). I left the next morning and went via Albuquerque instead (spent the night with my Grandsons). There, because of weather and the more exposed riding on the Vulcan, my daughter-in-law talked me into borrowing my son's 2014 F150 (with the Eco engine). Cost more, but because I was going to have a 60 mile a day commute from the free accommodations to the meeting locations, I gave in (actually was a sloppy week whereas previous years it had been beautiful).
So now I am finally able to deal with the 2003 XII and have to pull the oil pan. Near as I can tell, something hit it at the curve and put a 1/8" long crack in it.
So, I thought I could pull it without major, but yesterday I see that it requires the exhaust be pulled (two bolts under the right side). Any advice would be welcome before I start again tomorrow.
I just have it on the center stand do to lack of a way to jack it up and access the pan (Ideas?). Picks and updates to follow.
