Ok, skipped working on getting the Nexen to seat for the moment, and started on the bearings. Got the old out and the new in. A little fussy, and played hell with the snap ring (didn't have the right size pliers for it), but they're in.
The question I have is: when I removed the old seal, the back side of it and most of the inside of the area where the bearing and snap ring are was full of grease. Am I supposed to do this? These are All Balls sealed bearings and shouldn't need it, and the book only mentions putting a little grease on the inside edge of the seal where the spacer/axle goes. I haven't installed the seal as yet.

Re: rear bearings
When I replaced mine I did not add any grease. I did wipe some on the axle before I put it back together.
