Utopia backrest on the way :)

Post by Tonyvdb »

So with winter now set in up here and no riding possible for the next couple months for sure. I decided to purchase a Utopia backrest for my 96 Voyager, did I make the best choice? Im 6'3 tall and I find that longer rides my back gets a bit stiff and Im hoping that will help.
Ive also thought of playing with the handlebar positions any thoughts on that?

Mine is in the box with all the rest of the toys I've collected this winter. Quality looks outstanding and I'm looking forward to the back support. I'll be reassembling my '89 XII in 3 weeks.

I'm a lot shorter than you, but I love mine. It's easy to install and it does have considerable adjustment. One thing, though, I did have to install trunk extenders to make life a little more comfortable for my wife.

Utopia backrest is a great choice very well made and engineered. Ordering and customer service has always been great and they have been in business making them for over 20yrs. Tip: once you get the height where you want it, the angle adjustment is very easy to do and this is a good adjustment to play with to get the correct comfort position for you & "a very small adjustment on the angle screw can make a BIG difference"!!! and remember your backrest makes a difference as to how you adjust your handle bars

Handle bar position is also critial to comfort and is easy to find by simply loosen (enough just so you will be able to move them,) the bars at the point under the plastic ignition cover and at the knuckle joints on the upper bars, ( loosen enough just so you will ba able to move them ). Sitting on the mc close your eyes and have your hands on your thighs raise them with your wrists limp to a position that you feel very relaxed and comfortable, elbows bent, then open your eyes straighten your wrists and see where your hands are and then grab bars and adjust them as close to that position a you can. These adjustments and tire psi, shock adjust, seat adjustment, windshield adjustment will make the XII fit you exactly the way you want it and be very comfortable on long runs. Do not be impatient with adjustments YOU can find the right combo everyone sits different and don't be afraid to experiment. Enjoy the ride & ride safe!!!!!
