Temp Gauge, warm enough?

Is this warm enough? The bike rarely goes above this temp. I took it apart a couple weeks ago to check the ground to the temp sensor and the previous owner had already added one. Temp outside is about 65 and this is right after a 40 mile ride. Even in 90* summer heat it rarely rises any higher.

Perfect. Right where mine sits, except during stop-and-crawl in traffic on hot days.

Coincidence this discussion came up after I observed something. Like mentioned above, cruising in 70 degree air, it was at the 1st heavy mark. At the traffic light, it would go up to about mid range, fan would come on. Back up to speed, it would drop. I bought this bike with chocolate water. I'm hoping not to pull the radiator, again, get it flushed properly. Is my thinking right, dirty rad?

Mine usually runs at the same point. The electric fan turns on at one mark higher, if I remember correctly. The fan usually turns on when in stop/go traffic only. This engine runs cool, which is a very good thing. The heavy hash mark, just below the needle in the photo, is the "normal operating temperature", so it seems to be running just a little bit over 'normal'.

Have you done a flush/fill on the coolant? It is one of the most overlooked maintenance items. Mine has been done, and it ran at the same point, in your photo, ever since. My bike had some crud in the coolant, so temperature is not the indicator to go by, time, and mileage, is.

If your coolant is dark in color, it needs to be changed, regardless of mileage, or time. It should be the usual lime-green color. All coolants made today, are safe for use in M/C, or car engines -- they don't make the old, bad stuff, which will ruin an aluminum engine anymore. Cheers!

Yes, did a flush and fill when I got the bike a year ago, 2200 miles later (today), the gauge sits in the same place. The old coolant didn't look bad, so I didn't think that was a problem. Just wanted to be sure she wasn't running too cool!
