Post by JosephToulouse »

Anyone on here ever try sheep-skin seat covers for distance/comfort riding??

I have seen on the internet they have real sheep skin seat covers; not artificial ones.

We have one. It will keep you dry in good weather; it will keep your bottom warmer, on cold days. Basically, a sheepskin will prevent Monkey Butt, but that is about all it will do. It will not improve the pressure pains from sitting too long. For pressure issues, you will need something like the Airhawk or a knock-off; wooden beads will delay pressure pains, but it won't stop them completely. A custom seat, made to the driver's measurements, will be the best solution, next to an Airhawk Seat Cushion. Cheers!

About 4 years ago I picked up a real sheep skin at my local Sam's Club, cost was mid $40's and is still in great shape. Without cutting it fits both driver and passenger seats well.
Today's list price is $47.87, still a darned good price for the product.

I have been using a sheepskin since 1984 and don't like riding without it.
The best price I found is just down the road from me.

Our sheep skin does not go back to 1984 but it has been on our last three bikes. Everything said about helping keep the rider and passenger cool in the summer and warm in the cooler temperatures is so very correct. Ours came from New Zealand, compliments of our son while he was in the U.S. Navy. We wash ours in the wash machine probably twice a year then lay it over the deck rail to dry out in the sun. It always come out looking new and is ready for another season.

Hartco International - Lambskin (They were having trouble getting sheepskin in). Just put them on in February. A little pricey but VERY comfortable. Warm butt in the winter, cool in the summer (so I am told) - Definitely No Monkey butt (my last 200 mile stints no problems). Exact fit for the Voyager XII.

This poor critter gave it's ALL, so our rides will be more comfy !

Getting it centered ,with Utopia backrest removed...and making the slit

Put the rider backrest back on and ready to roll.

I plan on doing a bit more "fitting" and securing of the seat cover.Look out Estes Park...here we come :gig:
