Transmission question bike wont shift out of first gear

Post by bob1665 »

Hi all still a foot of snow here so no road test available but I am getting the bike ready for the season. 87 model 60000km and I bought it in the dead of winter so I couldn't test drive it. I had it running on the center stand today and thought I would run it thru the gears shifts into first great clutch works fine but wont shift into second or higher. Is this normal? I am assuming there is a safety that wont allow second gear till you are moving or at least I hope that is what the answer is. :help:

try about 3500rpm for the shift with the wheel turning. the transmission has to spin up with cold oil to sling the positive neutral balls out.
