no power to radio?

Post by kawman12 »

i got my 98 Voyager back together after spring cleaning and maintenance and i have no power to radio. My display has not worked for a few years, but i always had radio. I have checked and replaced the 2 in line fuses located behind headlight, but still no power. Any ideas?

Have you checked the connectors, they have a tenancy to get water in them and corrode. Sometimes just taking them apart and putting them back together is enough to get it working again.

There is also the 3A Audio fuse in the main fuse panel as well to check.

I have changed all the fuses and still no power. Will have to take fairing off to check connections.

With no display there is a good chance you have your "HS" (Head Set) button on, but you cannot see it. The radio defaults back to original settings when power is lost to it. Try pushing it in with radio on and be sure volume is up which you cannot see either.. Also make sure mute buttons front & rear are not pushed in.
Also the two wires that hold the fuses at the back of the radio may be cut right where they enter radio they sometimes rub on the entry hole to the radio and short out. Best advice is to do a search on the forum for: suzib6sw He is our radio expert and he can help you with just about any problem you have with the radio. Call him or PM . I do not know if there are any displays left anymore but he may be able to get you one. Getting the radio up without the display is a crapshoot because of it defaulting back to original setting and the settings sometimes are not the same on all XII's Good luck hope this helps

I know about the HS button as that has stumped me before. Problem is I cannot get the radio to turn on. Even with no display, the radio would always light up. it's as if there is no power going to radio at all.

Next thing I would do is: pm, or e-mail, Pete F. AKA : suzib6sw, do a search under "members' above in the "s" easy to find and he can walk you thru amp & radio problems as well as connections. He knows the XII radio & connections very well and is always there to help. He has repaired & modified many XII radios for XII members..

I found the problem was the 7.5 amp fuse. I swear I checked it before, but must have missed it somehow. All is well now.
