Cheat-sheets for common tasks...
This may be blatantly obvious, but I thought I'd share, just in case anyone is like me -- forgetful.
I need to change the oil on my XII, so I printed off the two pages that are important: page 6-3, listing torque spec's for the bolts, and page 6-4, listing oil spec's including amounts needed, depending upon whether changing the filter, or not (I always change the filter...). I printed them double-sided, same sheet of card stock, then I laminated it using clear contact paper (clear, peel-n-stick vinyl, actually), to make them durable, and re-usable. I only change oil once per 9-month season, so I don't remember all of the details. In the past, I printed these pages, got them dirty in the changing process, and then I threw them out. Next time, I repeated the process. This should make it more efficient by avoiding the need to print the sheets each time.
I plan to do the same with some of the other more frequent tasks I will need to do, like changing out the front fork fluid procedure. If I have the information on laminated sheets, it will be easy to file them, and easy to access them for the jobs. Use, mis-use, ignore, or pass along. Cheers!

Here's a fork oil change procedure I've used for years. Works great & easy to do

I have been wanting to do that since I started servicing my GS1100GK, and never got around to it.I always have to look it up and mark it down somewhere while I do the job, each time.SgtSlag wrote:This may be blatantly obvious, but I thought I'd share, just in case anyone is like me -- forgetful.

My tip is I painted the oil drain bolts yellow so I can find them.

Re: Cheat-sheets for common tasks...
I actually pulled the wrong bolt the first time I changed the oil... I like the idea of color coding them -- it makes them idiot-proof (aka, SgtSlag-proof...). Thanks for the idea! Cheers!

Re: Cheat-sheets for common tasks...
Hi SgtSlag,
I am new so this might be a dumb question but what do are you refering to when you say "page 6-3"? I just picked up a beautiful 2001 Voyager XII that is not running and trying to learn all I can. Very glad I found this site.
Thanks,
Sci

Welcome Sci, once you get it running you'll love the bike.
What they are talking about I believe is the Repair Manual, one of our members (Mr Jensee) has electronic versions available at the link below.

Re: Cheat-sheets for common tasks...
Ron, that is absolutely awesome! I know I've referenced Michael's docs a few times and depending on what machine I've used to access them, sometimes I've had issues and other time straight to them with out any problems. This is a great option and easy to remember where to go to get to them!debron wrote: See it HERE.
