Alternate Way to Repair Sagging Mirrors
By Homer Dawson

First with a small screw driver, pop the outer ring of the mirror loose, next remove the mirror (be very careful not to break the mirror), this will reveal the 10 mm bolt that needs to be tightened, once this is done replace the mirror, then, with a drop of silicone or glue, re-install the outer ring back on.

Thanks to all who responded. Now to tighten those mirrors. Looking in the mirrors and seeing my own foot, not very helpful. Trying to adjust them at highway speed , bad idea.

I just did this today 4/19/15. It was almost to easy on my 87. I put a small amount of superglue on my outer ring. I hope I dont have to remove them again.

Did the mirror repair yesterday, the one where you cut a hole in back of the mirror in line with the tightening bolt. I was afraid of breaking the glass doing it from the front. So i measured so very carefully, and gently cut the hole. This should be a snap. looked in with my little flashlight, where the heck is the tightening bolt ? I was so careful measuring, i cut the hole at the wrong end of the mirror. Now there's two holes !

Oh, so many advantages to two holes instead of one.
1- makes the bike much lighter for better fuel efficiency.
2- all the air that goes in the first hole has a better means of exit, also reducing resistance from wind, which also improves fuel mileage.
3- the extra whistling noise will help keep you awake on those long, boring stretches of desert roads. A big safety issue!
4- makes a good place to hide your mad (or, BEER) money from the wifie!

Now you need to do the same to the other mirror or your bike may pull to one side!

I pried off my mirrors' outer ring. Did not damage the mirror glass (Whew!!!). After tightening, I used some clear RTV to secure the outer rings in place... That was around four years ago, and everything is still right, and tight. Cheers!
