Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
Hello Voyager friends,
I just bought a '93 Voyager about a month ago.
I'm looking for a good set of folding highway pegs to mount on the front crash bars, that won't break the bank. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.
Mark

Emgo 54-48040 Floorboard Set W/1" Bckt
Amazon.com $39.30 w/free ship (only 4 left as of when I looked).
I bought a set last fall. I really like them (maybe not as nice as Kurakyn, but not as expensive).
I wish they were available in 1 1/4" for my wife's bike.

Re: Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
Just remember when it comes to pegs you usually get what you pay for.
I got mine from Marvellas, swapped out some cheep $30.00 ones from JC Whitney.
There more comfortable more adjustable and they don't move or come loose.
http://marvellas.com/cart/index.php?rou ... ry&path=37
Also if you are putting pegs on the crash bars you should have a cross bar between them.
I make polished stainless steel ones, PM me if your interested.

Re: Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
All:
Thank you for the recommendations. My needs are just to move my feet to prevent leg cramps. I agree that you get what you pay for. If I rode cross country, I would likely need the high end ones. However, our riding is regional only (<250 miles round trip) and around 3K per year.
For the last 12 years, I've been riding a '03 Honda Nighthawk 750, and using the 20$ chrome/brass plated pegs that have done the job.
Ken:
Can you please post a picture of yours?
Chevyman;
Can you describe the cross bar that you mentioned in your above post? I can't picture it.
Happy Trails!

Re: Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
I, too, have the floorboards, made by Emgo, which Amazon sells. I've used them on two different bikes: a 1979 Honda 750, and my '93 Voyager. I have actually used three pairs of them, due to fall overs which broke two pair (one pair had been welded back together by a friend, prior to selling them with the Honda). They are inexpensive, yes, but they are also floor "boards", not "pegs". This means that you can move your feet around on them, with more stability, than you can get, even from a wider peg. It is a matter of choice. I've used pegs, and I've used boards. My boards have served me better than any peg -- their low price is icing on my cake. YMMV.
With regards to moving around, cut a strip out of an old bicycle innertube, and wrap that around your guard bar, beneath the clamp for your board/peg. Once you tighten them down, they will not move, nor will they scratch up the chrome of the tube. Cheers!
PS:
We ride both locally for 200-300 mile trips, on weekends, as well as touring 1,500+ miles, over 7-9 days. I still prefer boards to pegs, any day, any trip. But that is just me.

Thats what they look like. I am going to post another place some pic's maybe tomorrow (have to take them first) of my tail light, so will do so then.
Only thing is, sometimes with road bumps, my feet want to work their way outwards (no stop lip). Minor issue at worst. I have only done day trips since putting them on last Christmas (present to self). Another 4k+ trip starting in June (towards Estes) so that will give them a major test.
I wanted to put them on my wifes Vulcan, but should have checked. Her's has aftermarket 1 1/4" guards and Emgo doesn't seem to make that size (gave them for Xmas to my son, don't know if he has put them on his bike as yet).
Anyway, I find on long trips the ability to move my feet around greatly helps my derriere and knees to survive.
I have found pegs alone to help, but are limiting in movement around and actually occasionally bother the insteps of my feet.

Re: Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
I bought a set from JC Whitney about four years ago. They cost around $50.00, and look a lot like the ones Ken just posted. They work just fine for me, with no signs of corrosion, and they haven't moved since I installed them.

The cross bar goes between the two front crash bars.
it give them straight so they don't bend when you put weight on the pegs.
you can see one that isn't polished in this pic.

Re: Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
What price are you asking for the SS cross bar? Does it come pre-drilled, with securing screws, or is that something we would need to take care of ourselves? Cheers!

Re: Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
The cross bars are $60.00 and there is no need to drill and put screws in.
They are just a round bar that doesn't matter if it would turn.
I am planning to have some with to the Rally so if you are interested Let me know so I can have enough made.
I will try to get a pic of one I have finished but it won't be until next week.

Another fan of the Emgo boards here - very comfortable, work great, cost little. What's not to like?

All,
First, I hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend.
Second, I just ordered a set of the Emgos. Looking forward to when they arrive.
Happy trails.

Re: Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
Just installed & tried out the Emgos. They work great.
First, I had to clean the crash bar and wrap Scotch 33 electrical tape around the area where the foot board will be clamped to. This will reduce the chance of the chrome getting damaged. Then I mounted them at the radius of the crash bars, set the boards, first at a 45 degree tilt at the mount, then a 20 degree lift to keep my feet from slipping off.
Again, thanks for the advice.

Re: Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
You may want to use some Locktite on the hex screws (both the clamps, and the boards screws -- these cannot fall out, but they can work loose), to keep things snug. Other than that, they are one of the best 'bang for your buck' items out there. Enjoy! Cheers!

SgtSlag,
Likely I'll do that if they come loose. Just tried them around the neighborhood and may want to adjust them.

Re: Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
Just for clarification, is it these floorboards that work as highway boards?
http://www.amazon.com/Emgo-Mini-Floorbo ... op?ie=UTF8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Is this a proper fit or do I need to get clamps as well?

Re: Recommend Highway Foot Pegs
Tonyvdp,
Sounds like that's a good question. I would order some to replace my pegs for ~50$. However, they looked like they mounted differently.
