Free power mod from SISF?
He pioneered this for the C10 and I confirmed on my Connie that it does what he says it does.
Is anyone doing this on the XII? Any reason not to?
The mod entails tapping into the ground wire for the igniter and running a lead straight to the battery neg.

No idea what this is about. Can you elaborate? Thanks. Cheers!

Re: Free power mod from SISF?
this is simply adding a ground wire to feed the ignition system only. with this modification it will not suffer ignition voltage drops when other loads are added to the charging system. your bike will start easier and the charging system will be a bit more efficient. i have been doing this on voyagers for years........carl

Re: Free power mod from SISF?
So that's the black and yellow wire at the igniter and Carl do you recommend taking the other cut end from the loom to ground also somewhere on the frame or just tape it up? I can see looking at the schematic where this could have some merit the ground has a lot of areas where it could definitely experience some voltage drop.

Re: Free power mod from SISF?
Brilliant tech update. Applicable to any bike. Wish I'd known about this when I had my '79 Honda 750: weak coils, might have improved their performance by providing a better Ground connection for them, at virtually $0. I'm putting this on my To Do List, for the Voyager. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

Re: Free power mod from SISF?
when you do this mod always solder the connections and i run the cut wire from the harness to a good frame ground..

Re: Free power mod from SISF?
I did this mod and do not notice any difference. I cut the black/yellow wire on the left igniter connection. From the plastic connector, ran a wire to the battery ground. From the wire bundle, ran a wire to frame ground.
My voltage still drops .4 volts when I turn on my driving lights and I notice no difference in starting.
Did I do it wrong?

Re: Free power mod from SISF?
What kind of driving lights? If they are 55W lights (x2), that's 110 Watts (~7.9 Amps), on top of everything else. I'd suggest using 10W/1,000 Lumen LED's (20W/1.4 Amps total), in place of 55W Incandescent lights, to free up power (90W/6.5 Amps recovered for all other electrical needs). Here is a link to one type of 10W/1,000 Lumen LED lights available on e-Bay: 10W LED. Cheers!

Re: Free power mod from SISF?
They are halogen. 50w mr16 bulbs. I tried LED, still have them, but I got terrible RFI and couldn't use my radio with them on.

Re: Free power mod from SISF?
Here's a simple RF Choke technique: LED RF Choke article. This will eliminate RFI from travelling down the power wires, into the electrical system. It will not eliminate them from the source, but it will stop the RFI from propagating down the wires, which will act as an antenna, broadcasting them. The article lists sources for the RF Chokes, at the bottom of the page. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Re: Free power mod from SISF?
I've tried the ferrite cores with no luck. I'm content with the halogen. They match my headlight.
Back to the ignition mod... Was the black/yellow wire on the left igniter connector the correct wire to cut?

Re: Free power mod from SISF?
Ok, wired igniter side to neg post. other side to frame ground.
Bike runs. If Carl says it helps, it will help!
On to Estes Park, so little to do, so much time (or something like that).
Enjoy,
Ken

OK. So I take it back. I am finding better throttle response, quicker starting, and increased fuel mileage. Good modification. No downside.
