gas leak
I now own two (2) voyagers XII and have the same problem with both. Gas running out the overflow tube. Hhmmmmm? do I have a sticking float on both bikes? If so, how can I tell what Carb it is? And is there a quick fix instead of pulling carbs? (1987 & 1986) Believing I should have stuck with my Vulcan.

Re: gas leak
The bikes are 29 years old. Probably all the carbs need to be pulled and cleaned. If someone local won't do it, contact Carl Leo (voyagerparts@bellsouth.net) and see if he still refurbs carbs. A lot of gunk can build up over the years with the poor quality gas we've had for the last 20+ years.

Re: gas leak
Agree with Mr Jensee, however you can pull the drain hoses off each carb to see which one is leaking. Some have had luck by opening the drain on that carb and turning the engine over forcing fuel past the needle valve and seat. I tried it but it didn't work and I ended up taking carbs off and rebuilding them. If your not able to do the work yourself Carl Leo is outstanding at it.........Good luck.......Gator Mike

Re: gas leak
Run some SeaFoam (double or triple strength) through a tank of fuel and follow the lead from the other poster of tapping them with the but end of a screwdriver. Should be able to access each of them without issue using a longer screwdriver and not much force, just enough to knock free any debris that may have gotten stuck.jlukas4165 wrote:I now own two (2) voyagers XII and have the same problem with both. Re: gas leak
Just had the same issue. I went thru a tank of fuel in 100 miles. So I checked everything out. Low and behold the needles would leak riding down the rode. Best thing to do is replace all 4 needles and be done with it.
I ordered a set of 6 K&L needles off ebay for 25 bucks shipped. Pulled carbs cleaned them out. Drilled out all 4 mixture screw caps. Set all 4 butterflys with a pin as a gauge. Set all 4 mixture screws 2 1/4 turns out. Replaced fuel filter. Replaced all fuel hoses and clamps. Bike purrs now. Now to see fuel mileage.

Re: gas leak
Make sure its the overflows that are leaking and not the gaskets between the bowl and carb body. My 87 started leaking at the gaskets and a removal quick clean and replacement of the gaskets was al it needed.
