The Galfer brake pads will give good braking even when pulling a loaded trailer. I'll have them on sale at the rally, including stainless steel brake lines.

I think I will get the Volars, but keep that set with you for me at least till Tuesday. I would rather not start out on worn sets (changing front only at this time), but it is an easy change (at least the front) when I get to Estes. By then I will have over 1k miles on the Volars so can make a decision/recommendation.
Eventually I want to go stainless lines, but between the two bikes, essentials only right now.

Installed the Volars Brake set (did all 3) this weekend. Have just under a hundred on them so far and they seem to be about the same response (after the first trip) for commuting in dry, 90 to 100F temps as the sintered set I took off. The previous set has been on the bike since I bought it at 16k and now have 54k on it.
I haven't pulled the trailer, nor will i have the load on it till we leave in 2 weeks. Mountains and too warm temps will test them.

Hi everyone,
I just ordered a set of ceramic brake pads for the rear brakes to my Voyager, what is your opinion on ceramic pads.
Any advice welcomed

Can't say about the ceramic pads but did try the organic pads from Ebay. Have a little over 1500 miles on them so far. Most of those miles were in the mountains and about 700 miles were pulling a trailer. So far, so good. Put them on the front and rear and can't tell any difference (so far) between them and the EBC pads that I replaced. Time will tell on the durability...

Got a couple thousand miles on the Volars on the front. Doesn't tear up the front rotors like the OEM, disks now look polished. They brake as effective as the OEM's, so got no complaints thus far. I'll see how well they do when I install the braided replacement brake lines.

I now have 5000 miles on my carbon/kevlar pads. They're awesome. They don't score the rotors and are smooth as silk.....

Anyone have any problem with brake dust in the whitewalls? I don't remember what I put on this last time, but they make a mess of the tire.

So now here we are a year later. Thank you so much Don. Short story, rode the Volars brake set from Phoenix to Colorado last year and when approaching Estes Park i had to make a freeway close to panic stop. The reason for the "close to" was the Volars were ok for the bike only, but inadequate for a bike pulling the trailer. They just didn't have the stopping power. Actually in my opinion the Volars aren't up to snuff. Don sold me a set of Galfers at Estes and I put them on in Colorado Springs (took it real easy getting there). Big difference. A year later they are still working fine (9k later-about 5k with trailer). Enjoyment of riding is reduced when the bike isn't stopping and the vehicle in front of you already has.

I've been doing some research on brake pads, and the consensus is that ceramic pads are for track use only.

Ceramic pads are street pads. They just cost more then standard pads. The biggest benefit is brake dust. I've used them on my cars in the past they were EBC brand on my car, with great success. This past summer I replaced the rear brake pads on Trisha's trike with Ceramic pads. They really helped with brake dust, also work good with no over heating problems. They are expensive. On the front of the trike 2007 Gold Wing I use Galfer HH compound pads which are sintered and Ceramic. Also my Voyager 1700 has Galfer HH pads mounted on the front, which are Ceramic and sintered.
I use this compound because they don't fade when over heated. Which happens when pulling trailers over mountain passes and hurrying down the other side, hot rodding on mountain roads.
They are worth the price!

Are these Sintered or Semi-sintered
An old post but just for reference, EBC pads designated 'HH' are scintered.
