Car tire

Post by voyager55 »

A year or two ago I bought a extra rear rim and a Nexen car tire for the bike. Many use this tire.
I could never get the tire to bead up properly. I tried everything! Set it in the sun, heat gun, every type of lube known to man, even a sex lube someone suggested! :-D
Nothing worked. Inflated it to 60lb. It wouldn't pop. Finally I gave up

I let the air out, left the tire on the rim & stored it in my basement. Saw it the other day and for the heck of it put some air in it. Darn thing beaded up perfectly & it's ready to ride!
I couldn't figure out why it beaded up now. Just shook my head, shrugged my shoulders and like Eddie from the Xmas vacation movie said "I don't know" lol

Going to add dyna beads for balancing & I'm set.

WOW, that is a good head scratcher there Larry ! ....... When you first start riding with the car tire ,you might think to yourself "what the heck did I do" ,it took awhile for the new tires to break in, or maybe I was the one being broke in to a different tire set combination ! I have over 4000 miles on my Nexen rear and Dunlop E 3 front, since spring ,and all is well ! ........................tony :-D

When I had my Nexen mounted, it took a little better than 80lbs to get it to seat. The guy was getting a little antsy but hung in there. It's been almost a year now and I've not had any issues at all with the CT. I was a little uneasy the first trip out since it was to the mountains but after a few miles on the twisties, I settled down. Just finished up a mountain trip a couple of weeks back and the tire still works like a charm. I'm planning to mount one on my Vulcan when it's time for a new one there.

I would watch the air pressure when seating the bead.
I have a friend that was putting air in a race car wheel and tire had less then 30 lbs in it when the wheel let go, They think the wheel was cracked but not visible.
They air lifted him to the hospital.
Tore his leg and knee up really bad, He did recover fully.
So just keep that in mind when you are stooped down with that tire between your legs putting air in it :oh:
