Vacuum sensor

Post by Citizen2015 »

Hi all;

I have a question about the vacuum sensor. On my bike, it appears that I have a "Mitsubishi boost sensor" with stamped number J9T01971 on it. It has a cracked inlet, which I attempted to fix, looks like I have to try a different glue.

My question...would a leaky sensor cause the bike to run too rich? (because mine does)
Secondly, whats with the Mitzi boost sensor...is this original? I looked online for an OEM sensor (BikeBandit, Kawasaki sites) and lo and behold...they list them as $750!!! What's the story here, anyone know?

Thanks
Michael from Ottawa Ontario Canada

Has anyone had a faulty sensor, and what effect did it have?

Bear in mind I know nothing about the 1300 but I do know it had fuel injection instead of carburetors. As you know from modern cars the sensors tell the fuel injectors how much fuel and air to mix for the car to run at the correct richness. I can assume that a faulty sensor will disrupt the mixture on the 1300 as well. I found a link to one costing just a little less than $700. Kawasaki does no longer make the part so they will be scarce and expensive. http://www.speedsupplies.com/parts/kawa ... 6-1006.htm There will come a time soon when the cost of parts will exceed what the bike is worth.

Thanks, I figured it would certainly disrupt fueling, and after my engine rebuild it was running very rich, and I wondered if this was the case.

Anyway, I re-glued the pipe, hopefully it will hold, but have no idea if the sensor is working or not.

But $700 for one little piece is crazy...I don't think there is anything else this stupid price. I bought a whole working 84 GPz900R for $800, and a working 81 Yamaha XV920R for $750...though both bikes have subsequently cost a lot more!

you might want to try this instead.
because it's the same vintage it may read the same.
It's identical in size and shape and it will bolt in and plug in the same.
Just a thought
