This is kind of like the what oil, or tire should I run. A lot of ideas out there, and several of them seam to work. I have always used a good plastic wax (Novus) on mine. A simple warm water rinse will let the bugs slide off easy and I have never had a real problem with scratching. Usually once a year I take the fine scratch remover and polish (also from Novus) just to get any little scratches that may show up through out the year.
Good luck and hoe you enjoy your new windshield!

Re: New Windshield Installation
I've been using Lemon Pledge for nine years, on windshields for three different bikes. I also use a microfiber towel. The Pledge will remove crayons... It leaves no residue. We pack it, and the microfiber towel, in the saddlebags every trip. It can be used on the whole bike, but remember, it will remove wax! We also use Pledge on our helmet visors. Plexus products are good, also, but Pledge is less expensive. Cheers!

Re: New Windshield Installation
Really it depends on whose windshield you install. My Clearview came with care instructions and I have followed it to the letter. An OEM is made of polycarbonate (Lexan) while after market units are often made of a thicker high strength plastics. Cleaning and care requirements differ with the manufacturer. Check with them. If you haven't ordered one yet I strongly suggest adding the center vent. In the heat of summer you will be glad you did.
