FUEL FILTER

Post by ohiojack »

What is the best way to get to the fuel filter on a voyager 12? My service manual says to remove the fuel tank. There has to be a easier way! Is it located under the bike? :hmm:

Under the left engine side chrome cover ...you will see the anti-freeze reservoir bottle (white) seen here in this picture. Remove the res. bottle and let it hang from the hoses ,or support it out of the way with a bun-gee chord. After removing the fasteners ...you may have to tug on the res. bottle pretty good cause they have been known to "stick"you will see the fuel filter ,and have enough room to change it out through here. If your fuel filter has never been changed...you will see a great improvement in the engines performance ! ....hope this helps........................tony :-D

You will want to either clamp the fuel line on the tank side of the filter ,or have the tank empty when you go to change the filter,as it is near the bottom of the tank. This will reduce your chances of washing your floor with gasoline :rolling:  :gig:

I always put a little silicone/brake grease on the plastic points, at the rear of the reservoir bottle, chrome side covers and on the rubber grommets they fit into. Makes removal/replace easy.
I have some lower airboxes and chrome sidecovers which had broken plastic points and/or grommet mounting tabs due to, I believe, the plastic points being pushed in/pulled out too hard when the plastic point and rubber grommet are not properly aligned, and/or dry cruddy mating surfaces. PITA to repair the plastic points and/or grommet mounting tabs.
I use silicone/brake grease as it won't affect the rubber.

Downloaded, and saved. No idea if mine has been replaced, or not. Have had two filters in the cupboard for a few years. Need to do this just to be certain. Thanks, everyone, for all of the tips. Love this site! Cheers!

ohiojacak, the quickest way to see if someone is a paying member of the AVA is the color of their user name, Green are AVA members and Red are just forum members. You can remain a forum member for free but I'm certain that there are sections that you can not access unless you become a paid member. Yearly dues are just $20 and along with that you get much more than access to the full forum, you get a heck of a lot more.
If you find this forum helpful and think you're interested, give it a try for a year. Others have and continue to pay each year while some just opt not to. Either way search the forums and ask questions and by all means share your thoughts!

Also we have a regional chapter of the AVA that you are welcome to participate in, the Mid-Atlantic Voyagers. Encompasses OH, PA, NY, NJ, MD, DE, VA & WV and anyone else who just wants to join in. Nothing fancy just a bunch of fun loving folks who enjoy riding (and eating, and B-S'ing).

I had lunch at at a place called "the tackle box" that sits right on the Sandusky river,I have lived in Toledo all of my life and have never been to Fremont Oh. before., I saw people pulling up on jet ski's and pontoon boats to the docks in front of the place, people were having alot of fun there ! I have no pictures to show this time, cause I forgot
to grab my camera...............................tony :-D

Hey I'm going to try to be there along with a friend of mine who rides a 1991 voyager, which has around 170,000 on it. It don't look too pretty but it still runs down the road!

Funny thing. I was born in Louisiana. All my life I thought all rivers, bayous and streams looked like that because that is how it always looks here. It wasn't until as a teen we took vacations into Arkansas and Tennessee that I saw clear water running out of the ground and running in streams. It fascinated me. Funny how we create impressions of how the world is by our immediate environment.

Sooooo......The Ohio rally :gig: was a big success !! Loren took the scenic route and came into Fremont Ohio from the West ! ........it turns out "ohio Jack" and "cushman eagle" have the same color voyagers ! We dined on lake erie walleye.....and origin unknown froglegs...... and every other un-healthy things that could be brought forth from a deep fryer !
We talked about all things voyager....and BORED the women folk to death (I think) .
my son brought out the injected connie....(man, I wish that engine was in a new voyager ! )
We spoke about the rally that just past .... and the up-coming "fall ride in" of the MAV chapter.

All in all ,a great time was had by all, and we even stopped for ice cream on the way home !
. we have a small window of opportunity to get these rides hap'n, before our short riding season is over !...........tony :-D
