So this here is a raspberry pi 2, a quad-core computer with a gig of memory and a whole bunch of functionality.
So far I've finally got it hooked up, a basic operating system installed, and wireless connectivity complete.
Next step is ordering the DAC, https://www.hifiberry.com/dacplus/ is what I will be purchasing since it gives me my two-channel output so I can hopefully reuse the existing amplifier.
Then the next step will be hand controls. So if you look at the pic above, the long row of pins are the GPIO(General Purpose Input Output) pins that I will be eventually connecting the radio controls into.
Then after that will be getting the touchscreen connected and configured, then gps navigation.
In the end I will end up with something like this.

The ultimate icing on the cake will be to reuse one of these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uozjVg7Fo34 so that I will know it can handle being in the sun. However, I will be limited to what I/O is driving the screen itself, as well as the touchscreen functionality. The idea is also for the screen to be centered in the space where the current radio is, and pop out and up without hitting the handlebars.
My goal is to have this all complete before the end of the winter, thankfully I can for the most part complete all this on a bench.
If you notice next to the HDMI connector, there is a black connector labeled "camera". That also accepts a purpose build camera that is also plug and plug. So I could also get either a rear view camera, or dash cam functionality as well.

I am amazed to see folks do things like this. When I read this I feel like I am on vacation because it's all GREEK. Yet, like a vacation, the tidbits of info I gain may one day be needed. Thanks for sharing. PS I come from a boating world and some of those guys post each time they turn a bolt, or paint a part. Guess someones looking/reading and learning!
