Battery Supplier
I've been looking at Voyagers, so while browsing your very informative board, I thought I'd give you a battery brand I've used before.
If I've missed seeing this mentioned elsewhere I apologize in advance.
Chrome Battery.com
I've used them in my 02 Bandit and my 08 zx-14 and my 00 zx9.
The price is right on and shipping is free. (comes us mail)
It looks to me that this is the 1200 battery judging by the CCA and dimensions.
They're getting $69.95 today, probably always that price.
12 V
21AH
252 Watts
350 CCA
Lead Acid
Nut and Bolt
350 CCA
8.13 x 3.44 x 6.38 Inches
Not in their catalog but here's a direct link

Cheers

Re: Battery Supplier
Richard,
Looks like that's the one. I'll check it out more closely and possibly add it to our Dollar4Dollar page here:

Re: Battery Supplier
Thanks for the welcome,
After seeing an ad on craigslist for a Voyager, a 1993 with 24k, I was intrigued. I hadn't seen one before and I "need" to learn everything I can before buying anything. I googled the bike and found your site.
I saw the bike yesterday and now am considering purchase more and thought I'd sign up to learn ssues, fixes and things, speedo cable replacement, one thing the bikes needs.
Found a 99 with 40k miles also for sale in NJ and I'll be going to see that one later this week and I'll see if I'm adding a fourth bike to my fleet.

Re: Battery Supplier
Everything you need to know about the Voyager XII: Buy one!
They are great bikes. A broken speedo cable is common and easy and cheap to replace. Make greasing the cable part of your annual spring maintenance. 40K on the clock is just broken-in.

Re: Battery Supplier
Looked for a long time and finally found a deal and am now the proud owner of a black 2000. $2200.00 (plus a tire) so far. 25,000 miles. It lived outside for part of it's life, everythings working so far, the cruise control started working today for the first time. Interesting feeling.

Nice looking Voyager.
I see there is no tie bar between the front crash bars, It really stiffen up the bars a must with highway pegs.
If you need one PM me.

Re: Battery Supplier
A black Voyager, you got yourself a coustom paint job. Looks good
Your going to want to replace the fuel filter, put a full tank of clean gas in it and change the oil using exactly 3.5L (3.22oz) there are 2 drain bolts plus the oil filter spot so 3 in total.
Add some Sea foam to your gas to clean out the carbs and it will run much better.

Re: Battery Supplier
Look for a Glass Mat or Gel Cell Battery. It requires no servicing and plays well with battery tenders.

Re: Battery Supplier
I have been running the Rotella t6 5w-40 since before I got my VXII,and have experienced no problems with it .It is only equal to a 5 wt cold but equal to a 40 wt hot.I like the 5 wt viscocity cold because it lubricates better on a cold start.

Re: Battery Supplier
That's kind of my thought also, it's hardly going to stay at 5w for very long as the motor heats up.

Re: Battery Supplier
Oil technology has come along way since 2003 definitely since 1986, all the oils now are superior and w does stand for the winter weight.voyager55 wrote:I guess the Kaw engineers don't know what they're doing then.

Re: Battery Supplier
I ran the T6 5W-40 for several years, in my Voyager. Started having shifting issues, missing gears above 2nd, going into "neutral", when it should not have been feasible. I did some searching on the Internet for shifting problems with T6, and I found a few postings on it, for GW's, mostly. I also read something about the oil film sticking to metal parts ("film strength"?) -- related, apparently, to minimum viscosity of the oil.
I changed my oil recently, to Rotella T 15W-40, to see if it would help with the mis-shifts... We put 300+ miles on the bike, last Sunday, with only one mis-shift, which my wife thinks was her fault for not lifting the lever up fully. I had no issues, myself. We traded positions throughout the day, each logging around 150+ miles of driving. It is only anecdotal, non-scientific evidence, but it seems as though the oil viscosity change pretty much eliminated the mis-shifts we'd been experiencing with the bike. YMMV. Cheers!
