Spark plugs and fuel filter?

Post by Tonyvdb »

Happy Sunday everyone!

So Friday on my way in to work my Voyager started but ran really rough. Seemed as if it was missfiring. It ran better once it warmed up but still not as smooth and seemed sluggish at low rpm.
Today I pulled off the false tank and pulled the outside right spark wire off the plug and clearly it was arching as there was a noticeable burn mark on both the cap and the engine right at the base of the ceramic and the aluminum plug. After removing the plug its self there seems to be a slight crack in the ceramic but it's really tough to tell.
So the plug that came out was an NGK DPR8EA-9 and I read that the best plug to use is the DPR 7EIX-9 my question is what is the difference between the two if any?

My second question is what fuel filter should I be getting while I am out buying the replacement plugs?

Thanks as always for your help?

Stock plug is NGK DPR8EA-9 Lower the number- hotter the plug is.

I'd recommend NGK Iridium plugs. Last longer- DPR8EIX-9
Napa stock number is 2022

Fuel Filter Part Number is 49019-1055 (Kaw oem)

On NGK plugs, the lower the # the hotter.

So would it not be better to go with the 7 rather than the 8 given I live in a colder climate to ensure a hotter spark?

I'd stay with stock plugs, I'm in Minnesota & the bike runs great on them. I did switch to the Iridium plug thou
It is a common misconception that spark plugs create heat. They don't. A heat range refers to how much heat a spark plug is capable of removing from the combustion chamber.

Well, I replaced the plugs and it still runs as if it's missing. I'm not sure what I should look for next. Wires or maybe another elecrical issue. It smells rich so I would guess the gas is still getting to the cylinder so it's not the carbs?

I would check the carbs.,there could be a slide hanging up.
Also make sure they are in sync.
