REAR BRAKE
When i got on my 1986 1300 to ride it home after i bought it i noticed that the rear brake is locked wont move to stop? i only have the front brake to stop the bike? This bike also has a side car will it have to be removed to check the rear brake to work on it?

Re: REAR BRAKE
The rear brake itself is on the left. I would check that before taking the side car off .
If is just a stuck pedal you may be able to free it up without removing side car .
Good luck

Re: REAR BRAKE
Depends on what's causing it to stick. I'm playing this a little by ear so bear with me.
First place to look is the pedal itself .When you jiggle it up and down does it move at all?
If not it is probably the pedal itself. Remove the pedal and use your favorite lube (WD40) or something similar to spray around the shaft. Let it soak in awhile replace pedal and try to move it.
If in the first test you feel it move up and down a little ,then the problem could be in the caliper or master cylinder .Open the bleeder and push on the brake if fluid comes out your master cylinder is probably good but the caliper if froze .If no fluid comes out your master cylinder may be froze .
If it's the master cylinder you may have to remove the sidecar to get at it but otherwise you have a good place to start.
I'm more a shade tree then a mechanic but I enjoy a good tinker as long as it doesn't become a chore or a major expense .
I hope you get it figured out because I want to hear more about this side car equipped 1300.

Re: REAR BRAKE
1300 with a sidecar, huh? All-reet! My first Voyager 1300 was a 1983 and I mounted a Motorvation Spyder to it and put over 112,000 miles on it. LOVED that bike until I was t-boned. While most guys find it necessary to modify the forks to make a bike handle well with a sidecar, mine was stock and handled quite nicely. Of course, there was a bit more tire wear front and rear.
What kind of sidecar? Would LOVE to see a few pics of the rig.
If ANYthing in the brake system is sticking, they will almost always need to be rebuilt as EVERYthing is probably in bad shape.
BTW, all of the brake parts are readily available on eBay. I have three sets of front brake parts and two full rear sets. Paid maybe $100 for all of them. The rebuild kits and pads are still available pretty easily, too. Ebay has several salvage dealers who sell at reasonable prices if you know what you need. Just make it a daily habit to browse the eBay used parts under "Kawasaki 1300". Soon you will see a pattern of prices and also which dealers are good and which ones are selling junk for too much. You will also find that you have more money invested in spares than you paid for the bike in the first place. Gotta keep these grand ole ladies rolling, though!
I also just bought an '85 1300 and it's clutch was slipping badly at first. After two oil changes it still slips if I am in 3rd or higher gear and I roll on the throttle hard. Once soaked with any of the wrong syn oils, the friction plates will never clean off well enough to not slip at all. Even a good laquer thinner soaking will not help. Just get a new set of plates and start over. Not expensive, and super easy to replace. About a 2 hour job, including cleanup and ready to ride.

Re: REAR BRAKE
The way I do it is to post my pics to my FaceBook pages, then grab the URL location from that location and paste it into the body of my post here. Do you have FaceBook?baddaddy54 wrote:Can't figure out how to get the pic on here by the instructions?
Actually, almost any online hosting location will work fine. All you have to do is grab it's URL and paste it into the body of your post here.
