Sticking Brakes

Post by 99VoyagerXII »

Sometimes, it seems that my brakes are sticking, but then after rocking the bike backward and forward, they clear up. Would that seem to indicate sticking guide pins, or sticking brake caliper piston? Bike is coming out of the garage for first time this year for a 100 mile ride this coming saturday!

(I know, they're meant to be ridden, but I tore my meniscus and when summer got here, I was on crutches and couldn't hold the bike up..... :cry2: )

Try a short ride to see if the brakes work okay.If they do, try a couple mile ride, then touch all three rotors to see if they are warm to the touch.Hot is not good,it means they are not releasing, and should be freed up.I wish you the best.

Also check the brake fluid and see if it's dirty or dark.
If it is change it and make sure the holes in the master cylinder are clear.

Thank You everyone for the replies. Tomorrow, I will check off each suggestion. Last night, I CitriStripped a spare painted taillight. Thought that I'd ruined it, but with a little bit of rubbing and polishing compound, I was very surprised, and satisfied! :woohoo:
Now to fix those brakes, and gather the courage to pop the Voyager emblem off the trunk and go after that painted lense too!
Thanks for the suggestions!
