Can't ride at the moment but have been starting the bike 1999 regularly while it was idling my crazy giant rescue dog got out so I had to get in my car and chase him down. He is harmless but would scare the hell out of you if you saw him running at you.. In my haste I left the bike running.
When I got back it had stalled out and there was a good amount of coolant on the floor.
I let everything cool down and tried to add more coolant but it leaks out almost as fast as I put it in. I have not tried to start it and due to low light in the area cannot tell exactly where the fluid is coming from. Moving the bike around as you know is not that easy so I am asking how to proceed from here, limited funds and more limited mech. ability. Any advice on how to proceed in diagnosing the problem would be most appreciated. I am just hoping there is no serious damage. In the past when idling for awhile you can hear the cooling fan kick in. While I cannot ride now I hope to return to riding after an upcoming surgery. Help Please

Re: Coolant Leak
Sounds like the leak is pretty bad obviously. That being said, Id say your gonna need to look for yourself or possible grab a friend while putting water in the cap without it running and track down where its dumping out from. Could be a hose split or clamp came loose and a hose pooped off. Hopefully it didnt drain out allowing it to overheat and cause damage, otherwise just letting it idle shouldent kill it. The fan and cooling system should keep things in check.

Re: Coolant Leak
I think it may have overheated and have not even tried to start it.
When I returned the bike had stalled out and the coolant was on the floor, prior to that there was never any leaks. Being in fear of doing any damage I waited several hours to try and add coolant which then promptly came right out. Any ideas as to how I can proceed, I live alone so there is not much in the way of help available to me. Thanks

Re: Coolant Leak
One possibility is to set a garden hose in the radiator and turn on the water at a trickle. You should be able to track down the leak and address it. Once fixed you're going to need to drain and refill with a 50/50 mix so the hose and city water isnt a concern IMO.
