Rear Bearing Removal

Ok guys. So I am in the process of replacing the rear bearings on my ZG1200. The ones currently in are the original factory (1986 with 65k on it), and one finally died on me.

I got the new bearings for both sides, new dust seal and I'm ready to go. But there is a problem... The retaining clip on the right side of the wheel.

I am able to get all but the outer race out of that side (that was the side that took a huge poop on me when I was going down the road at 75MPH) because of this clip. And I can't tell if it's a threaded or a squeeze clip. Reason I say this is because with squeeze clips, usually there are two holes to put a clip removing pliers into. I don't see them anywhere. And the wheel itself doesn't seem to be threaded to make anyone think that its a screw in job.

So can anyone here tell me what type of clip this is? I have the diagram and it looks like a squeeze retaining clip, but the diagram is also a little fuzzy so it's difficult to tell.

Its been bugging me because I have all of the stuff to do it, and I don't want to spend $80 at the shop just for them to pop them out. But this clip is kicking my butt.

It is indeed a squeeze style of circlip, having the 2 holes. I just checked a wheel I am doing the same job to.

Well I was able to get the clip out. My problem now is getting the outer race out of the hub. There really isn't a good place, in behind, to get a good surface to hit the outer race. This is the side of the wheel that the inner and all the bearings came out when I pulled it off of the bike.

Any suggestions on how to remove the outer race on the right side of the wheel? The left side popped out without any issue.

i have also had this happen. i electric weld a bolt across the race giving me a good surface to tap the inner race out, do it while the hub is hot and it will just almost jump out.........carl

If you run a bead of weld (stick or mig) about 1/3 of the way around the race it will fall out, the weld pulls it smaller.
