1200 Speakers

I'm picking up a 1987 Voyager 1200 in a few days. Rear speakers need replaced, but I thought I would replace all 4 with weather proof speakers. I'm reading several places and get different sizes, ranging from 3.5 to 5.5 inches. Anyone know?

There are a few conversations in the forums about speaker replacement..

A few have gone to the Pioneer... I think it was the TS-A1072R... 4" 3 way speakers.

I most likely will go to these soon.

has anyone tried the Polk Audio DB-401 marine series speakers? wondering how they sound at highway speeds and did they have to install an amp to push them better?

I was trying to do some comparisons between the Polk Audio DB-401 and the Pioneer ts-A1072R speakers mentioned above. I'm not an electronic guy by no means so really don't know what to look for as far as power needs and recommendation. I see some riders have gone with the Pioneers but I can't see anywhere on any sites where they say the are waterproof. Are they?

Just so you know, the stock 1200 speakers are weatherproof, maybe not the best sounding, but it may take more than just speakers to make a large inprovement.

I blew one of my stock rear speakers trying to drownd out a loud HD I was riding with. Figure i might as well upgrade if im changing one out. I knew i needed weather proof speakers. Dont expect miricals from 4" speakers.

New speakers these days are not paper. All marine speakers have a connection wiring points that holds up to moisture better. You'll be fine.

Others have been using this particular speaker for a while and have had success with it. I haven't bought these yet and have no personal experiences with it. I suppose if you live in a very rainy area or near ocean salt air and your XII is parked outdoors most of the time, might be worth investing in marine speakers. Perhaps someone else will chime in on their experiences.
