Post the fall colors in your backyard

Post by Avidrider62 »

I love the autumn, but florida colors don't exist. Was going to see them this year by bike, but we're saving money for permanent move in May 2016 to Oregon

O.K......."Avidrider 62, I have heard many people tell me that "FALL" is their favorite time of year.
Here in northern Ohio,....from the time you made this initial post....our tree's had NOT started "giving up" those beautiful fall colors that you desire. and since no one else has responded to your request for fall color pictures.... I am going to say that I too love the colors....but HATE the yard clean-up associated with this time of year ! So until my property gives up those colors,I thought I would share this story about my yard clean-up last week end. Have been living in this house for 20 years, and have a arsenal of leaf removal equipment...but always looking for a better way !
So I decided to take my Honda ATC 200, and fabricate a frame mounted trailer hitch to it ,that I could give the drive belt on my lawn tractor a "break"....since towing things behind it, is what usually cuts it's life in half. Hooked up the "leaf flipper" behind the trike and got started....front tire goes flat :dm:
Off to harbor freight for a inner tube....get back to the house, remove the front wheel...get out the bead breaker...bla...bla ...bla....all aired up ,and ready for WORK ! went down to the "low land" and got the job done ! The next morning I went out on the deck, to look at the great job I had just done.... and with the high winds we have had here all weekend... it didn't look like I did a darn thing ! :gmad: ...So I go to get the ATC out and start over, and see that the cheap a$$ Chinese tube went bad. Got pi$$ed off and harvested the (puncture proof) wheel off of the wheel barrow...fabbed up some spacers... and on it went :hpdc:  Just so you guys can share in the good time ,that my family members had laughing at my creation....here is a look at that !

Image

I gotta admit...that is pretty darn funny.......and never to be out done by ONE laugh... I decided to REALLY give em' something to laugh about ....and anyway, I had to return my wheel barrow back to duty ...right ? ............So I went into one of the "out buildings" looking around for something to present itself....and....how about the front wheel off of a 1981 Kawasaki 550 LTD to make em laugh, and keep them knowing that there IS value in re-purposing most everything......and there IS a purpose to save things for many decades....cause "I'm gonna use that somehow ,someday" So here is the last laugh to leave you guys with today ! by the way, my son said that the trike now looks"BAD A$$"................and I will add another post, to this with some fall leaf color pictures..............................Tony :-D

O.K. guys ....let's have it ! :gig:

Ok, never associated colors with the yard work. Like here, some say rain is nice, untill you live in the sub tropical environment like us, flooding streets , sink holes ect. I do know leaves on a wet road are slippery. My arse will be riding permantly in SW Oregon next June. Can't you just mow the leaves into bits?

...NO !.......I kinda live in a forest ! Too many trees that ALL drop at about the same time ! Leaves are ankle deep, way too much for the mower to mulch ...unless you keep up with it every 24 hours, over a 3 to 4 week period. The only solution to ending the leaf removal problem....would be to fire up the chain saw ,and re-purpose the trees into heat for my workshop all winter !..........not gonna do that !

Tony: With all the interest in trikes now and the prices they are getting, that could be a good project for the winter. Make a snow trike or a street trike. :hmm:

Love to re-purpose things. The wife don't understand my needing to hang on to old things.
I'd say that Big Wheel needs to have a set of those small racing quad-runner rear wheels and tires on it.
As far as colors, Here in Northern Illinois we are just this weekend getting some good color. should be peaking in this next week. I will try to get out with the camera and shoot some local shots and try to figure out how to post them. For now though, I'm still dealing with my apple harvest before heavy frost sets in this weekend.

Load them on tinypics.com. When you upload there, there's a choice as what size to save them, avatar, forum etc...Then add a pic here, from there

hey thanks , Gene , I am mad at myself for selling my lathe some 15 years ago...it is too bad that there is some 700 miles between us ! we may spend too much time on silly things like this! ...or maybe it is a good thing that we are NOT next door neighbors !.......could u imagine ?(by the way....the house next door to me is coming up for sale ....and it has a huge garage ! ) :gig:
l will NOT be sending you any measurments any time soon about that trike axle... as I now am in posession of a set of transformer boards.....and my stock passenger floor board mounting side plates need "milling".............pics to follow !....Tony :-D

My son-in- law is a computer guy. (aren't they all?) I'll have him help me figure it out. Unfortunately, electronics and me mix like fire and water. Give me hands on with tool and I'm good.
I'll get the camera out this weekend and see what we can come up with.

...O.K NO work on motorcycles in the shop this weekend. :-(
It was all about the 4th .....5 hour session of leaf duty for the season :dm:
Here is a look at the "rig" in action ! ...after fabricating a frame mounted trailer hitch to the A$$ end of the 30 year old ATC Honda.....I'm yanking the old "leaf flipper" all around the property pretty good !....I still have not made it out to Harbour Frieght to get a new shorter wheel yet....but for now ,the "big wheel" thing is working out pretty well !

Image

Image

I good YANK with the right arm on the old rope ....dumps out the hopper :gig:
Then AWAY I go to collect another load of leaves ! was out at SEARS over the weekend ...and saw a "leaf flipper" 3 TIMES the size of the one I have ! But the $400. price made me NOT pull the trigger on it :-( .....Oh well this is working well for now !.......Tony :-D
