back up light

Post by triton28 »

So the other week I purchased a NOS Markland Voyager XII backup light/beeper unit. I know I know some of you are going to say what the hell for and some of you probably have never heard of this item, but it's does in fact exist.
Well when it arrived it was all there except for the installation sheet but I have figured out that the bracket the unit mounts to goes behind the helmet locks and is mounted using the helmet lock screws or some just slightly longer.
What has me stumped is where the double rocker switch housing mounts. It has a 6mm FH machine screw and a long collar which would space the switch housing away from adjacent equipment.
So my question is; has anyone ever mounted one of these Markland backup light switch assemblies and if so where, according to Markland instructions please, does it go? I am leaning to replacing the master cylinder clamp top screw with the collar, switch assembly and the FH screw.
I know I could mount the switch anywhere but I would like to keep to the original installation sheet location.
Any help would be appreciated,
thanks in advance,
Dave

Ok so here are 2 photos of the backup light/beeper. The first shows the light mounted behind the helmet locks and the second shows the switch housing assembly mounted where the top cap screw of a master cylinder would go.Image

This should be good for a few laughs when it is up and running.

I put one of these on my '94 back in the day. (I was one of those anal guy who bought anything Markland made for the Voyagers)

Any how, got a lot of laughs when I would turn it on as I was huffing my bike backwards. I eventually cut one of the leads to quiet the beeper.

However, the light showed it's usefulness (is that a word). Since I trailer a Camper and cargo trailers, having the light came in handy when hitching up, checking the trailer, or getting into the tongue cooler, after dark.

Somewhere in my stash of parts, I actually have an unopened, Markland, Back-up light kit that I was going to mount to my '03, but never got around to!

That's a perfect description of what becoming a senior has done to me. I would never have imagined when I was roaring around on my new CB750 Hondas that I would own a full dressed touring bike. Nor would I have thought I would mount a back up light on it. But here I am.
I originally bought it because 1) it was a Markland Voyager XII accessory and 2) it seemed like the pinnacle of absurdity and would be good for a laugh.
However, since reading the post by Bill O, I must say I have seen the light. There do in fact appear to be numerous good reasons for having a white light at the rear of a XII, especially for we senior riders :-)
But I am sure next season when I turn it on, I will definitely get some laughs.

The beeper would be great for a chuckle or three    but the light, now there are just some times you need some light! I'd be turning that on anytime I park at night in my garage, which requires a 12-point or so turn :rolling:
