where is the radio fuse located
Where is the radio fuse? The manual says to remove it before disconnecting the battery. I can't find it.

Re: where is the radio fuse located
Rodney, you must be referring to Page 15-2 Electrical System in the Service Manual. That 3 Amp fuse is located in the Main Fuse Block toward the front right under the false fuel tank cover. It is the first and only 3 Amp fuse on the left, for audio memory power (CB and main) and the trunk light.Rodney wrote:Where is the radio fuse? I've never touched that fuse when removing the battery. No problems

I never did either and haven't had any problems thus far, but there is a reason why Kawasaki put that Precaution there.voyager55 wrote:I've never touched that fuse when removing the battery. No problems
My guess is that any spark that may be generated when a battery cable is removed can induce a voltage spike high enough to possibly destroy sensitive electronic circuits.Kawasaki Voyager XII Service Manual wrote:15-2 Electrical System, Precautions

Perhaps that neither your or I had problems could be pure luck more than anything else?
Next time I disconnect the battery I will unplug that 3 Amp Audio fuse first, Can't go wrong.

Re: where is the radio fuse located
To me that makes on sense if you get a spark and cause a surge by unhooking the battery whats to say you won't get a spark and cause a surge when pulling the fuse.
I unhooked a battery many of times and never had a problem.
But now we all know that the next time I hook the battery up the radio won't work

Re: where is the radio fuse located
Just a guess but I think pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery, or conversely, installing the aforementioned, WHILE the radio is turned on could lead to problems. For myself, I always turn the radios off before disconnecting and then reinstalling any power leads. YMMV

Re: where is the radio fuse located
CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) semiconductors and microprocessors can easily be damaged by voltage spikes, including static electricity. http://www.electroschematics.com/4313/s ... ecautions/has an explanation.
The pulling of the 3-Amp Audio fuse is rather benign. With trunk lid closed and radio off, the current to keep radio settings stored is very low.

Re: where is the radio fuse located
Ok thank you guys I found it. I pulled it to save having the clock drain the battery during the winter storage months. I do put a conditioner on the battery but want to minimize any load.

Ha, I did not know about pulling the 3 amp fuse. I pulled the battery for winter, and this spring my radio doesn't work.

Oh it may still work, but will default to AM and all stored memory stations are lost. Try it again , press FM and scroll some stations.fmjnathan wrote:Ha, I did not know about pulling the 3 amp fuse. I pulled the battery for winter, and this spring my radio doesn't work.
