12 volt power outlet

I'm wanting to add a 12 volt power outlet. I do not have CB radio and I'm guessing the power for the CB would be the best way to power the outlet. Will this work? Also, where would I locate the power supply for the CB. I came across it once before when I was working on my bike but that was last year and I have no idea where I saw it.

The CB hooks up the same place the radio does.
I would not use that for the power outlet you will be limited on amps.
I would hook to the battery with a fuse,If you want it to turn on/off with the key use a relay and energize the relay with the aux. power wire behind the headlight.

Better yet, install a sub-fuse block, with a single relay, connected to a switched circuit. Many of us here have installed one beneath the faux tank, in the right-hand square space -- almost like it was made for it. I glued mine in with RTV Silicone, so that it can be removed easily, if necessary.

Sub-fuse blocks can be purchased from your local auto supply stores, typically for around $7-$10. A tube of RTV Silicone is around $3-$5. This will give you the option of adding an additional 3-5 circuits, all switched on with the key, and the slots will take whatever size fuse you need. Beware, however, that your alternator has a very limited supply of extra amps: total up the draw, and subtract that from the maximum output, and keep it in the positive! I recommend leaving an extra 5 amps, for a safety margin. I have an extra circuit for LED running lights on the crash bars, as well as a circuit for my upgraded horns, which have their own relay to activate them, but they draw power directly from the battery, through the sub-fuse block, for greater power, and noise. Couldn't agree more about using a powered fuse block. I have one that has both direct and switched connections and spent an afternoon completely re wiring the mess the previous owner had done so now I have a clean battery with out wires and several relays all attached to the battery it all comes off the fuse block and it's all water proof because all the connections are up by the battery and not strewn all over the place.

I think I will look into the extra fuse block idea. Where would I run the hot to if I want it switched? also, how many amps does the alternator put out?

Going to the fuze block,I went right from the battery to the block. I also installed a in line fuze. Just to be safe. A lot of people have installed these blocks. So you can get a lot of good advice here. Good luck, Enjoy your Voyager!

I just picked up one of these blocks myself and have been looking into the best power source. I'm open to suggestions. I want it powered by something that is switched with the ignition so I don't have to remember to turn things off. someone suggested using the Accessory wires behind the head lamp. My concern with that is that I know my stereo is hooked to that line as well. I lost my stereo power recently and Peter helped me trace it back to the lights on my forks. they shorted and blew the fuse for the accessory lines. Fixed that and the stereo came back to life. I'm worried that if I use that line, I will have too much on the circuit as it will be everything coming from the fuse block plus everything already on the accessory line. I think I'd rather find something closer to the source after the ignition switch. Any ideas out there of a switched hot source before it goes to any other circuits, other than the one going from the ignition to the starter? I thought of coming off the battery with a relay but I'm worried that if any wire on anything from that block rubs and wears through, it will draw current and the relay will remain closed when the bike is shut down and drain the battery. plus that is another item in line that could fail. Any ideas out there?

Power the fuse block off the battery with a 30A fuse threw a relay (I used a relay out of a Camaro 30A)
Use the accessory wire to energize the relay.
Everything that you have powered by the accessory wire power threw the fuse block.
That way the only draw on the accessory wire is the relay.
I mounted the relay and fuse block behind the headlight looking in from the front on the left(right side of the bike) wire tied them to the bar that is in there

I have wondered what the reserve lighting device is. Can you access this for extra lights and relays. Why is there an in and no out, if there is where is it.

The reserve lighting is a relay that will switch the headlamp to whatever filament is good from the bad one. This insures you are never without a headlight working since you normally cannot turn the lights off.

That is not what I was referring to, that was the only thing I could find on the schematics that looked close. I was talking about the auxiliary lighting box on the left. It has all the light wiring going to it. Or maybe I still don't know what I'm looking at, but that's why I'm asking. It is a gold box bolted to the fairing frame right under the left speaker. What is that?

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the top of the igniter unit? Or am I seeing the wrong square space? Is it safe to mount it to the igniter? I like the thought of keeping it under the faux tank for fast, easy access, but under the headlamp is safe from the weather as well.

I don't know what the gold box is but the reserve lighting you were referring to is a black box bolted above the turn signal box which is also black. both are under the faring below the speaker on the left side.

Is it to hard to post pics of what each is talking about. Gives me a chuckle to read and follow descriptions. Almost like a police sketch of someone describing a person. Good reading and we still learn.
