Dunlop Tires
I know Dunlop makes a exact match American Elite for the front 130/90 16 but not the back has anyone put the American Elite 180/65 16 on the back rather than a 170/70 16 which is the original size called for, and have not had any problems at all especially with the ABS system.

Re: Dunlop Tires
That is the tire I put on my 2010 Voyager as a replacement for the OEM Bridgestone. I have had no problems and the wear characteristics look to be over three times the distance I got with the OEM. I used to get 4000 to 4500 miles on an Exedra Max and a bit more on the original 722 (riding mostly two-up). I am over 13,500 on the American Elite and there is still a fair amount of tread left before I hit the recommended minimum 2mm tread left. The width is only slightly greater and the aspect ratio makes the overall diameter almost exactly the same. I should mention that my bike does not have the ABS system although I doubt that it would make a significant difference in tread wear.

Re: Dunlop Tires
Thanks good infor, but I am really wondering if the different size tire will have any abnormal affect on the ABS system.

Re: Dunlop Tires
I will have to let one of the forum experts supply a definitive answer, but since the difference in profile height is only 2 mm and the tread wear will normally be greater than that by a good bit, I would say that the likelihood of any abnormal effect would be negligible. In fact, the new 180/65 would be the same as a 170/70 after 2mm of tread had worn off. I hope that helps.

Re: Dunlop Tires
Um ... actually, the 170/70/16 is a taller tire than the 180/65/16. It will put your speed off by 0.6% slower. I found that the stock 170/70/16 actually had my speedo off by about 5% slow from the get-go. In other words, when my speedo read 50 MPH, I was actually doing 47.5 MPH. I decided to go with a Michelin Commander II to replace the stock 'Stones, however, they did not offer it in the 170/70/16 so I had to go with the smaller 170/65/16 which put me even slower by another 2.7% so now my speedo reads 50 MPH and I crusin' along at about 46 MPH. Here's a handy tire size comparator ...

Metzeler recommended a 180/70/16 for my old '05 Nomad in what they called a "Stage I Upgrade." I found it corrected the speedo on the Nomad and I really like the way it handled and rode much better than the stock 'Stones. Soooo... Just ordered a new Dunlop E-3 in 180/70/16 to replace the Commander II (170/65/16). This will be a HUGH difference for me to go back to the "Stage I Upgrade" size. I know I'm really gonna like it. I'll recheck my speedo with the Garmin once I get 'er done.

Re: Dunlop Tires
Yes, that is exactly what I said; although in re-reading my post I can see that it is somewhat ambiguous. That is, it could be read as after the 2mm had worn off the 180, or that it was after 2mm had worn off the 170. Thank you for the clarification and confirmation.
