question abut 86 voyager
A dealer has one cheap.56,000 miles. He said it needs a back tire and starter repair.is that most likely broken starter chain? If so, does that mean a trashed engine?I will have to have it shipped here if i buy it.I am sure a rebuild of this motor is way over my head, but I can replace a starter if thats all it is.

Re: question abut 86 voyager
Starter chain or starter clutch are engine out and apart & split cases, and could have further internal damage.
Just starter replace is simple, but you do not know the problem until you replace starter!!.
Do not know what the cost is?? but I would not buy it without some more very good information.
Computer needs to be clearly a pn# 1248 not a 1179. sight unseen???, correct paperwork? history? Not on my $

Re: question abut 86 voyager
I'm thinking the "dealer" already knows the issues with this bike . if it was a "EASY" fix ...they would have already done it, and be asking more money for the bike ! Likely they already know what they would be getting themselves into, and are "offing" a bike "cheap" that they do not want to put the time or money into .

Re: question abut 86 voyager
Easier to buy another engine, like from Carl Leo, who checks them out. I did this on a 87 that had a bad engine. Typical rattle, not chain but the tensioner was bad
