New to the forum looking at buying a 1993 Voyager

Post by theoldguy »

Hi all, I'm so glad I found this forum. Let me introduce myself and give a bit of personal information. I am 62 years young and have been riding for over 37 years. Over the years I have had a lot of different bikes. Back in the early 90's, over a period of time I owned 3 different Yamaha Venture Royales. Loved the bike. Fast forward to today. Last November I had to sell my then current ride because I was laid off in February of 2015. Still out of work but am looking at finding a ride because well, I ride, therefore I am kind of thing. You know what I mean. Anyway, I have always loved the Voyager XII and am looking at perhaps this one below that I found on Kijiji here in Alberta. Any comments opinions would be appreciated from you folks. It is a 1993 KAwi Voyager with 55,000 kilometers on it.

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-touring/calgary/ ... 1140079784" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, could someone please tell what the actual HP the XII makes? I've seen it reported as 97 on a few searches that I have done but was wondering if you guys could confirm or clarify that for me.
Thank you in advance and I look forward to your comments.

Welcome aboard from your neighbor to the North in Edmonton.

These bikes are wonderful to ride and easy to maintain.

Yes 97HP is correct, and is plenty of power to pull a trailer and two up. The price is a little high but still within reason hopefully you can wiggle it down a thousand or so. Its of course in CAD so all of the US folks on here will say its way to high. but with the CAD and US$ exchange rate being almost 25% its not so bad.

Thank you, I appreciate the comments. The only thing I can't see is the antenna/s in the pictures but maybe it is just my eyes and the picture quality.

I don't see any antenna either, the CB was an add on so it may not be equipped and the radio antenna may have been replaced with a stubby one.

If you do purchase it make sure you change all the fluids regardless if it's been done already (oil and coolant) let us know if you do pick it up and we will help with how to easily go about that.

WELCOME TO THE GROUP ! Just thinking that the $ 4900. price is at the top of the price range. There are a lot of these bikes selling for WAY less ! (maybe not in your area i realize.) be patient and wait for a good deal to come along.

Thank you gentlemen for all the comments and the links to those bikes. The person who owns the bike I posted about emailed me back and said the bike does not have a CB and he took the radio antenna off simply for convenience. The CB is not an issue. My wife and I use a SENA SM10 intercom that we pair to our phones and my Zumo 660.
I would change all the fluids and install new Avons or Michelins; probably Avon Venom X's. I run a small motorcycle tire mount and balance service here at the home location out of my garage.
Is it OK to share my website seeing that everyone is mostly thousands of miles away (except tonyvdb)?

Tony is right
Price has some dickering room.
With only 35000 miles you would do good at 3000 us dollars (4000 Canadian) Assuming everything is as it should be. More or less would be according to your impression of the bike

Hello Chris;
welcome from Nova Scotia. You won't be disappointed with a good Voyager XII or the wealth of info/camaraderie available on this forum. If you haven't already found it, Kijiji has a lot of Canadian XIIs listed from province to province in the touring section.
Good luck on your search.

Hi Chris, looking over your website its very detailed and love the pics of the old bikes.

I would try to get the price of that bike in Calgary down and if he questions why tell him that I picked my voyager up for $1000 (Far below what he could have gotten) from a friend and it only had 48,000mi on the OD. There are a few XII on Kijiji for around $3,500 for example the one in Lethbridge so you should be able to knock a grand off his asking.

Thanks all. I will have to go over the Kijiji ads again. I scoured them yesterday and only found the one in Calgary. Hmmm.

Dont let the millage fool you either as the XIIs are known to get 300,000mi without any repairs to the motor.

I talked to this gentleman today. It's 99.9% sold to a person from Winnipeg.

Rule 1 of selling. It ain't sold till the money is in the seller's hand.
