Gene I put my Voyager up on a jack and tested the forks for looseness and to my surprise the bike is as solid as a rock. I was so looking forward to using your tool. It now resides in a special slot in my tool case waiting for the day I will get to use it.

Were you having any issues to begin with or just doing routine maintenance ?Mr Jensee wrote:Gene I put my Voyager up on a jack and tested the forks for looseness and to my surprise the bike is as solid as a rock. Re: Steering Stem bearing wrench
At times I still get the low speed wobble between 35 and 40 mph. I have gone through proper tire pressure, I run Dunlop E3 tires. It is annoying but not serious.ekap1200 wrote:Were you having any issues to begin with or just doing routine maintenance ?Mr Jensee wrote:Gene I put my Voyager up on a jack and tested the forks for looseness and to my surprise the bike is as solid as a rock. Will that wobble occur even with you hand on the bars ?Mr Jensee wrote:At times I still get the low speed wobble between 35 and 40 mph. Carl Leo, recommends checking that those fender inserts, do stand proud of the plastic by .001 to .003" They are still available from Partzilla for 4.25 each. Mine will more than likely go into that wobble at deceleration around 30 mph , but I just never take both hands off the bars. I just don't need to know if it does. Now before I put mine down for winter service I had 24,000 or so on the tires, and I could feel the front end not feeling quite up to par. That seems to be my warning sign and the only time I have issues with the front end. Rear tire had a bit up cupping and the front was just plain down to the limit of service. Normally if all is well with mine , I can make a u-turn on a two lane country road without taking my feet off the pegs, and no jittery feeling or wobble to the front end.
Anyway just had to ask about your wobble.

Re: Steering Stem bearing wrench
The wobble occurs when I remove my hands from the bars between 30 and 40 mph. After that and before that stable. No cupping of the tires and proper inflation on both ends. 36 psi front and 40 lbs psi rear. I will check the inserts. I removed the fender some years ago to replace the Voyager badge. Hope I didn't crush the inserts.

Are the steering stem wrench (socket?) still available? Would like to buy one if they are.

Re: Steering Stem bearing wrench
I know its been a while since I posted but I neglected to tell you that also installed on the front fender is that chrome framework with the lights on the side. I believe the inserts were removed when that was installed. I don't see anything else to do but pull the handlebars and try adjusting the steering head stem.Mr Jensee wrote:The wobble occurs when I remove my hands from the bars between 30 and 40 mph. noob alert!
I notice that my stock (air) forks are really sensitive to pressures between 3 and 10 psi; and that this range can seriously change the chassis geometry. I mean, I think it's better to air the forks to the minimum pressure that keeps them from going flat at static load. For me, that's more like 10 psi than what I've seen written. Just a little short of 10 psi and my forks collapse, and then the steering gets heavy, crusty, and wobbly.
Maybe your forks get a lot longer with just a little more air?

Re: Steering Stem bearing wrench
Thanks, been doing that. Getting ready to switch progressive springs from my 88 to 03. Have new bearings so figured it would be a good time to go all the way.
