Just got my New to Me Voyager home
I've been lurking around the forum for a while, and finally found the Voyager I wanted. Got home with it last night and unloaded it from the trailer this morning. Made a couple of laps around the neighborhood and tucked her in the shop. She had 4634 miles, so I hope it will last a long time. Looking forward to doing some minor maintenance checks and then putting some miles on. The info here has been great!

Congrats!
That is really low miles. I've got over 65,000. What year is it?

Re: Just got my New to Me Voyager home
I know what you mean. When I was a teen (long long ago in a galaxy far far away) I had an uncle by marriage who was a strange fellow. He bought a brand new Yamaha SX500 and rode it very little. Long after he and my aunt both passed away I visited the homestead. There in a barn rusted nearly away was the 500 with less than 6000 miles on the OD. I wanted to cry. The bike was beyond saving and its sad it had such a short life with most of it wasting away in a barn.

Re: Just got my New to Me Voyager home
I'll see if I can get a picture or two today. Low mile older bikes (and cars) are out there, but you have to jump on them when they show up. Last year I got my son a 1992 Ford Crown Vic with 18K miles on it. It was like driving a new car.

Re: Just got my New to Me Voyager home
Changed the oil and filter, filter was put together wrong. Washer was in the wrong place. Replaced the o-rings, filled with 3 qts 22 oz Rotella. Tire pressure was at 19 lbs front and rear, ( a little low) no air in the suspension ( got a low pressure hand pump and gauge) put about 7 1/2 in the front and 30 in the rear. And ordered a new helmet.....

Re: Just got my New to Me Voyager home
Sounds good.
You might consider a coolant flush. The bike probably sat for years without circulating the fluid. Make sure the coolant is ok for aluminum components. On the plus side, mine sat in my garage for 4 years without starting, and the coolant looks and smells fresh. I can tell by the small puddle under the bike after idling for 20 minutes. Just a loose hose clamp, I hope.

Re: Just got my New to Me Voyager home
Coolant looks as fresh as new in the overflow tank. Supposed to have had a full "resurrection" about 2-3 years ago, ridden little since. Front brake fluid looked a little off color, changed it out with now DOT 4 fluid. Master cylinder looked clean and new inside the reservoir. May try to pull a saddlebag and flush the rear brake.

Re: Just got my New to Me Voyager home
I had some bad luck with my rear brake. Changed the pads and the fluid, and now it's squishy. Bled it about 30 times, followed everyone's advice to get air out of the system. It got some better, but not rock-solid. I don't know how I got air in the lines, but once in, it can be a challenge (for some) to get it out.
Ride safe,
Tim
