Life expectancy of a clutch

Post by Mr Clean »

Hey folks I was riding the vulcan voyager yesterday and was wondering what the average life of the clutch is on these bikes are. I currently have 67000 on it with no noticeable issues with it.

Life expectancy of a clutch can be 20 seconds to well over 100 000 miles. All depends on you.

I agree. How you handle clutching and shifting means a lot in regards to clutch life. I have owned about 8 bikes in my lifetime and I never had a clutch problem with any of them.

My ODO just turned 106,000 and no issues. I'll be pulling a Timeout to the AVA International Rally in June with my 1700 and don't expect any clutch problems. My Voyager 1200 went 156,000 on the original clutch, and when I replaced the clutch it was more for preventive maintenance.

Thank you Don. That's what I thought and wanted to hear. I really love my bike and I keep it show room condition The only possible reason I'd trade it is to get a new color. Seems the Voyager comes in every color as long as the color is black.

These numbers are good to hear.

However, I burn my clutch more often in parking lots than I ever do on the open road. I just picked up a 2016 VV 1700 and before I even test drove it on the street, I planted my feet on the boards and threw the handlebars right to the stops in both directions to get the feel of the bike at the parking lot speed. Clutch, throttle, and rear brake is the way I learned to do that. It does wear the clutch a bit though. My 99 Royal Star Venture is now in my Florida Garage and it's starting to talk to me about needing a new clutch at 56k mi.
