lithium battery
I ts time for a new battery. Who has used the Shorei or Scorpion lithium battery in the 1200. I like the idea of the much lighter battery given the high battery location.

Re: lithium battery
Lithium batteries have different requirements. Be sure to research their preferences/requirements before you buy one, to make sure it is a good fit (check out the issues of temperatures, and the effect cold has on them).
Personally, I go with an AGM: zero maintenance other than the usual smart trickle charger after each ride, which doubles the life of the battery, as well as peak performance; they also last twice as long as a flooded battery. The Center of Gravity on the Voyager XII is pretty low, already, even with the battery high as it is. I honestly doubt you will notice much change in the handling with a Lithium battery. Cheers!

Re: lithium battery
Multi-cell lithium batteries require individual cell monitoring and charge to be safe and to keep it balanced. Our bikes don't have the correct charging systems to deal with all of that. MANY garages, and even whole houses, have been burned to the ground from incorrect charging and handling of Lithium batteries.
They have just too many sensitivities for me to ever consider one for use on a motorcycle. So, unless somebody has come up with a charge converter specifically for a Lithium, I highly recommend staying away from them for your bike. The weight savings isn't worth the risks.

Re: lithium battery
I agree with Trikebuilder on this one. Lithium batteries still have a way to go before they are a reliable alternative to lead acid batteries. Yes they are lighter. Yes they are indeed costlier and yes they have been used in hybrid and electric cars now for some time. BUT, it is still a flawed science. Lithium batteries have a nasty habit besides catching fire, of become an expensive brick if they are allowed to completely discharge. If it is weight saving you want to do I would look elsewhere.

Re: lithium battery
The following comes directly off the Scorpion website:
"Ok, I mentioned that there are some pitfalls. The first is that while these are great starting batteries, they are not designed for zero loss, or deep cycle applications. They are designed with weight in mind and will not perform as well as a lead battery when cycled deeply. Secondly, they are a bit more sensitive to temperature than Lead batteries. They don’t perform as well as a comparable AGM type battery when the temperature drops below about 20 degrees, and they also are more sensitive to heat. We don’t recommend these be installed in an application where the battery cannot get any cooling air, such as surrounded by an oil tank, or directly on top of a motor. Third, they must not be charged at over 15.5 volts. ALWAYS check your charging system prior to installation to make sure your stator or alternator never produces more than that 15.5 volts. Higher voltage can cause these batteries to melt down. "
Like most others I would stay with AGM batteries............Gator Mike

Re: lithium battery
I would go with the AGM battery
Here is a website with good prices and free shipping.
I have been using option 2 and have no complaints

Re: lithium battery
I bought an Odyssey AGM battery off their website. A really good battery.
