Re: New to me Voyager and a road trip
What an awesome trip!
Glad to hear that the bike is running good, that gives me hope for mine.
Here's looking forward to a safe, uneventful ride back to FL.
Thanks for telling your story.
Ride safe,
Tim

Re: New to me Voyager and a road trip
Made it back home last night around 8:30 pm. That was the longest day in the saddle (907 miles). After seeing the weather that was coming into the Houston area that I would have had to ride through all along the gulf coast if I waited and headed back Saturday morning, I made the decision to leave my Baytown, TX hotel room at 12:00 am Saturday morning. It was about 2 hours before the thunderstorms moved into the area. I rode all night and day and made it home .
The Voyager proved to be an excellent machine despite the couple issues I did not fix before leaving. I was reasonably comfortable and got better mileage than I expected. My favorite feature is the cruise control. Second is the power and ability to cruise effortlessly at highway speeds (unlike my KLR which does fine on the highway as long as there are not high winds or I want to ride much faster than 70 when fully loaded) It even returned similar and sometimes better mileage than the KLR would do in the same conditions.
The only negative was when it ended up on its side on a wet and muddy mountain road shoulder. Who knew there was so much mud under what appeared to be some very solidly packed gravel
For those interested in fuel economy numbers, here is the link for that data.
Here are a few more pictures. I plan to do an actual ride report at some point.
The route:
Looking a bit muddy
Outside of Moab
You know it was windy when it rips off the air shock valve cover and blows it away

Re: New to me Voyager and a road trip
Sounds like it was quite a trip.... I see both mirrors still on the bike, so laying down was not two awful, and I see no cracked plastic. Quite a ride, Looks like a good bike washing is in order, but it got you there and back. Glad to see you home and safe. waiting to hear a full report of the great ride of 2016.

Thanks for taking the time to make posts along the way, I followed along as you posted, and knew the XII would not let you down,as they just keep rolling along ! The wind really SUX when you find yourself caught in those riding conditions and have to just keep going and bare it .... It must have been horrible in your case... to have RIPPED that little door over the air fillers clean off your bike !
Glad you had a successful trip,...Gene mentioned hearing a full report of your trip , ...hope you can make it up to Hurley ,so we can hear it in person ! but after THIS trip that you just returned from , you may not be ready to set out on another voyage in 6 weeks from now ! ..............Tony

Funny you post the google map link. I was just looking that up last night.Lucasind wrote:"

I grew up in Wisconsin and don't need too much of an excuse to go back.
However, I can't commit to being able to make it at this time. If I end up going, it would be truly last minute.
I need a few things from Carl before any more big trips. Have to fix those smaller issues and see if I can get my long distance comfort improved a bit more. The airhawk helps, but isn't as good for me as I had hoped.

I just did that to encourage you to come join the group...great time at the rallys !
If you dont mind camping ..."last minute" would work, as the hotel are likely near filled by now .
Did you post the trips total miles somewhere , and I missed it ? Just curious, cause not many guys would take a newly acquired 22 year old bike on a long road trip as you just did ! But then... you picked one of the best bikes to do it !...........................Tony

Wow looks like an awesome trip and some great pictures. Thanks for taking the time to post. I'm in the Clearwater / St. Pete area. Maybe we can meet up some day for a cold one and lunch.

Sorry for the late response. I seem to have missed this earlier in the month.Lucasind wrote::

The trip from FL to Vegas and back was about 6800 miles. If you add in the 680 riding it home from Knoxville and the 400 or so miles put on the few days before the trip, it was just over 8000 miles put on in a span of 18 riding days. There were 4 days spent in the same place in Las Vegas with no riding.

Re: New to me Voyager and a road trip
That is definitely possible. I do enjoy taking the Voyager out for a ride and always welcome an opportunity to meet other riders.Kawi_Nut wrote:Wow looks like an awesome trip and some great pictures.
