Cruise Control WORKS!
I was doing some freeway driving today, and tried the cruise control. It wouldn't kick in when I pushed the SET switch, but I just kept trying it. After about 10 tries, the CC kicked in. Speed dropped off about 5mph, then the CC took over. Accel and Decel work, and after it worked the first time, it continued to work every time I tried it.
I've had the bike for years, but the CC never worked before. Carl Leo said that, once I got it working, I'd wonder how I ever did without it. Carl is very wise.
Ride safe,
Tim

Re: Cruise Control WORKS!
The main reason the cruise control will not engage is that a disengagement switch is stuck. Usually this can be fixed spraying the contacts with a good electrical contact cleaner like CRC. Moisture seems to make these contacts stick closed much of the time.

Re: Cruise Control WORKS!
Mine needed the cable adjusted (too much slack), and it worked fine for a couple of years... Now it seems as if the cable tension (slack) needs to be adjusted again: takes a 4-5 MPH drop in speed, then slowly climbs back up; used to take hold immediately, after the cable was adjusted. Time to tear down the front fairing, again. Video is on YouTube. Cheers!

Glad you got it working. Speed shouldn't drop off, that drop means the cable to the servo needs adjusting. It is located inside the right side of the fairing, requires disassembling the fairing to get to. With it adjusted there is no speed drop off, just locks on and stays there.Tim in NC wrote:Speed dropped off about 5mph, then the CC took over.

Re: Cruise Control WORKS!
When I first got my bike the CC did the same thing. Turned out to be the front brake lever pivot was dirty and not allowing the lever to fully extend out and engage the CC switch. After riding a while and playing with things it would finally engage until the next time I pulled in the brake lever. A good cleaning and lube job, and now hear the double click it supposed to have from the two switches mounted in there.

Re: Cruise Control WORKS!
I have to push my front brake lever forward every time, I hear it click when pushed, then cruise works, I did clean it once but maybe not good enough, since I know how to make it work I get lazy about looking at it closer.

Re: Cruise Control WORKS!
It might be time to just replace it. Those switches are tiny and hard to work on unless you have the tiny tools to do so.

Re: Cruise Control WORKS!
Once in a while cruise won't lock on until I downshift to 4th and back to 5th, think it is related to the shifter switch. It may be going bad.

Re: Cruise Control WORKS!
this is what mine what doing also. After I took the levers apart and cleaned and greased everything, the levers moved more freely and apparently further out of the way to allow the switch to open fully. No need to push the lever anylonger.scoot71 wrote:I have to push my front brake lever forward every time, I hear it click when pushed, then cruise works, I did clean it once but maybe not good enough, since I know how to make it work I get lazy about looking at it closer.
