My 95 XII , when I hit the rear brake pedal I get no brake lights, if I use the front brake I get brake lights. I checked the switch on the pedal with a meter and its fine, is there a relay for the rear brake pedal ? And where is it located?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Having just checked the service manual it does not show a relay. Next place to check would be
behind seat under front of tour box. check for power at wire black with red tracer and back to brake
light switch. Sounds like you have a broken wire or an open in one of the connectors in line.

Have to ask and explain. The foot pedal also has two switches, the outboard one is for the cruise/cancel circuit. The brake switch is behind the plate.ratiug wrote:My 95 XII , when I hit the rear brake pedal I get no brake lights, if I use the front brake I get brake lights. The spring ' Me Again is referring too, links the switch to the pedal and may have become rusted to the point of breaking off. Or if someone has , at some point had the fuel pump out, the wiring plugs for the rear switch have become loose or broken. Since you have the side covers off at this point, locate the two wires coming from your rear switch and just jumper the harness side to see if that wiring is at fault. If you get lamps/on look further toward the switch or link.

The brake light activation switch should have an adjustment to allow you to pull it closed against the spring tension. All older Japanese bikes I have owned had them.
