BRAKE LIGHT FUSE KEEPS BLOWING

Hi I found out my brake lights weren't work while I was investigating my cruise not being able to set at speed. my brake light fuse keeps blowing every time I press front or back brake. Checked the switches and they are ok .I did a search and found out that there is a relay above headlight ,how do I get to it and is it possible it could blow the fuse ? I thought that the relay will either let it function or not . I'm thinkin its a wire grounding out somewhere . so the cruise is also hooked into braking system kinda complicated not your normal switch to light like im use to! if anyone has had this issue please let me know how and what wire /part you fixed Can't ride with no brake lights ! HELP Thanks

Hello from NJ. When you say" checked the switches " be aware the foot brake switch is on the back side of the foot lever pivot plate. Good chance the switches are o/k . If it were me, I would first look at the lamp holders and make sure a bulb didn't get jarred out and the pigtail is hitting ground. Next I would pull the trunk and the seats off and visually inspect the harness for being ( at some point ) miss-routed and chaffed thru somewhere. Not routed properly will cut the harness under the trunk. And the most logical place to look as the fuse blows when either , front/rear , switch is closed. 20 minuets to pull the trunk and seats, and the harness is easy to inspect clear up to the engine. It's a good starting point, let us know what you find after that.

Found the short it was under the trunk, YEAH I GOT BRAKE LIGHTS AGAIN!! thanks for the info. I did a little research and the 22amp Toyota relay #41-5002 is $29 at autozone and $11.49 at NAPA their part # is AR355 but double chek the cross reference if you need one. Thanks again

Might be a good idea to pull out the light bulbs and spray some electrical contact cleaner in the sockets and put a dab of dielectric grease on the contact points of the bulbs. If rust builds up it will increase the resistance in the circuit and blow fuses as well. Just a thought.
