My turn signals have never self-canceled.
I thought I had a problem with the Distance Sensor, but my cruise control and auto radio volume works. So it may be as simple as a sticky solenoid in the switch.
I've read all of the posts, and I'm ready to dig into that turn signal switch.
If I can fix it, I'll post up with what worked, and what didn't.
Ride Safe,
Tim

Re: Next Project: Turn Signals
So, starting with this...
ARGH!
I'm trying to post pics of the inside of the switch. The Forum won't let me post pics, keeps saying that they're too big. I've resized them down to 400x300 pixels, still won't let me post.
The picture below shows the switch, with the little metal plate removed. The plate is held on with one screw, and sits above the switch. Can't upload a picture with the plate installed.
Anyway, I opened up the switch housing, and shot some WD40 into the switch. Then I squeezed some dielectrci grease into the cavities beside the switch mechanism. Put it all back together, and gave it a road test. Still no auto cancel. I wish there was a way to actuate the little solenoid that moves the switch back.

The solenoid can be tested with an ohm meter. It is just a continuous wire and should have continuity. If it's open it's bad. I think there is a turn signal control unit that controls this. You find them on eBay for not much money. Maybe switch that out.

Please don't use WD40 on an electrical component. Use an electrical contact cleaner. CRC makes one and it is available at a lot of national chain auto parts stores. WD40 is a very poor conductor of electrical current. If you have to lubricate anything in a plastic housing not electrical I suggest getting some silicone lubricant. It wont harm rubber or plastics.

Re: Next Project: Turn Signals
yes, WD40 becomes sticky after a few weeks and actually makes the problem even worse.

Error messages are sometimes cryptic, I believe that the only forums that allow uploading photos is "Tech Tips". Don't know if membership is required for that. I use my photobucket account for most posting, use photo editing software to reduce pixels to 640 max high, 800 max wide. Pixel restraints are hard coded, so a portrait format of 800 high by 640 wide won't work, largest then is 640 high by 512 wide (four-thirds format).Tim in NC wrote:ARGH!
