Engine noise
First time posting. I have a 1996 Voyager that sat in someone's yard for a long time. It has its problems and I am slowly sorting them out. Right now there is a tapping sound coming from the right side of the engine. It sounds like a lifter to me but I'm no mechanic. It does not tap all the time normally the noise starts after about thirty minutes to even an hour of riding. If I let the engine idle down or come to a stop the noise will go away. It may or may not come back as the RPM's climb again. Under 2000 RPM's and it is normally quite. Above 2500 RPM's and its tapping like crazy. I have changed the oil several times with new filters each time using Kawasaki oil and Rotella as suggested here. I have also tried seafoam, Red mystery oil and Lucas oil stabilizer. Nothing works. The local Kawasaki shop thinks (without even listening to the motor) that its a lifter but 16 at $75 a piece is far more than I want to spend on a $1500 dollar bike. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. Oh bike just hit 51000 miles.

Re: Engine noise
How much oil are you putting in the bike? Never use the sight glass as its useless, only put 3quarts 22 oz in. The oil is drained from 3 spots: https://www.amervoyassoc.org/techtipsXI ... 20Location" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Too much oil will cause the sound you describe.

Re: Engine noise
I changed the oil just like its preached here on the board 3 quarts 22 ounces and argued with my older brother about two plugs and the filter. I won the bet lol!

It also does not hurt to put 1&1/2 ounces of seafoam in the oil just before you change it. Run bike with seafoam in it then dump the oil and seafoam. Put in fresh oil with new filter good to go. That's 1%1/2 ounces per quart of oil. 6 ounces total.

Re: Engine noise
If you don't have any luck with lockwoodjohn's suggestion, I seem to recall Carl Leo once posted in a forum that he has used ATF to replace a portion of the 3qts, 22 ozs of oil. He would then run the bike for a # of hundred miles and then drain and refill the system with fresh oil/filter.
I don't remember the exact figures but if I recall correctly, Carl used this to clean out dirty lash adjusters. If one reads through the archives I'm sure it will show up, but I don't remember the title of the post.
Perhaps if Carl reads this post he, or someone with a more exact recalling of the post, will chime in and enlarge on this procedure.

Re: Engine noise
I'ee that would have been me posting what Kawasaki told me to do with my 2001 when I got that lifter clatter.
