Voyagers on cycletrader
Hello All,
Over the past few years I have a tendency to look over cycletrader for available voyagers out of curiosity looking at price and mileage for these great bikes. Usually I feel fortunate to find maybe 1 listed in the US somewhere. So that tells me that folks are keeping their dependable Voyager. The last few months I have searched and found anywhere from 12 to 18 available every time. If there are a dozen listed here then there are many more selling that we don't see. So I ask the question, why?
Are the dealers discouraging to take older cycles in trade?
Are folks retiring from riding?
Are they selling it personally to invest in a new voyager, Spyder, Goldwing, Triumph, BMW K/R models, Ventures? (what are folks purchasing?)
Your thoughts? ....thanks

Upgrading to a modern touring bike. Bikes aren't worth anything to dealers for a trade, so they sell outright

Re: Voyagers on cycletrader
I read somewhere that the number of women who have had their breasts enlarged in the past year increased by 31%. This might account for the sudden flood of Voyagers being offered for sale.

Re: Voyagers on cycletrader
Almost every time I look on our local Kansas City CL I see two or three VXII's for sale. I've often wondered if I should post those links here, but since most of us already have our bikes, I wondered how much good it would do. Not many guys want multiple bikes like Tony and I do.
Maybe we need a separate classified section for just online listings of bikes from eBay and Craigslist. Hey, if someone sees one listed in the KC area I am more than happy to help them go pick it up, store it for a short while or help them arrange to see it. There are four of them for sale withing about 30 miles of me right now, and two of those look really nice from the pics. Anybody interested?

Re: Voyagers on cycletrader
Up here in Alberta a few pop up on Kijiji but often owners want between $3k and $6k (yes there is a 2003 for 6k right now) and I got my 96 for 1k so not a chance I would buy another at more than $2.5k unless it was all chromed up.

Tony, what would you have to go through and what expenses to buy one down here in the States? Could you just buy it down here and drive it over the border? Most of them around here are between $2400 and $2800.

Re: Voyagers on cycletrader
In order to get it registered up here there is some loops to go through and fees to pay so it's not really cost effective. Plus with the current exchange rate every $1000usd costs me $1300cadtrikebldr wrote:Tony, what would you have to go through and what expenses to buy one down here in the States? My current 96 runs well but the plastic is a bit rough in places from the previous owner dumping it and the chrome end caps on the motor are not very nice (the plating is peeling off). I'll make due for now.

Re: Voyagers on cycletrader
Yep, I realize that dealers give you $0 for an trade they cannot sell but the numbers are worked to look like it was a fair amount.
I was hoping that we had friends and associates that knew people that purchased something new so we could have an informal poll on what people are purchasing rather than speculate.
Thanks

Re: Voyagers on cycletrader
I have a nephew who bought a brand new Triumph 850 a couple of years ago. I also have three friends who have bought brand new Can AM Spyders in this last year. Two of them are ex-long-time-Harley riders. Another friend bought a new Harley two years ago, and he also just got a new BMW in Feb. Of course, 75% of the bikes around here (KC) are Harleys since they are made here.
Our own Don Medina seems to buy a new Voyager 1700 monthly (not really!) since he almost lives on his!
