The only problem I remember with the 02's were some had early u-joint failures. Some 02's had some problems as it was said that the tooling was getting old but was nothing radical no recalls that I remember.
Otherwise they had all the upgrades from earlier years in engineering. 88 to 2003 were outwardly basically the same but they did make some engineering changes though out the production years.
I had a 02 and it was perfect for 120,000mi.
What is the mileage and are maint records available.
Maint thru the years is more important than anything else!!!.Good luck and Ride Safe.

One bike has a little over 25,000 miles and the other 35,000.Both bikes are second owners and look really clean in pictures.

Mileage looks good if legit?? Be able to examine the XII, pictures do nothing!!. Lots of scammers out there.
Check tires for tread depth cracks & date stamp,
check brake pads,
suspension action, front & rear, Check controls movement, lights.
Make sure every button works.
Look for rust in the gas tank,
Look for any visible corrosion. ect, ect, ect,
& as you have already done the smartest thing, is ASK questions, there are plenty of very knowledgeable owners on this board that will gladly help you along.. Good luck..
