While most Rally attendees were arriving on Sunday the board was hard at work getting everything ready for Monday.
two good looking motorcycles along side of the munch bar. They did sell tacos, but I was told that were so so.

Great pictures Hank and Gert. You're correct I do seem to find all of those coffee shops. But I did get some help in Harrison, Idaho.

Re: Post Rally Pictures Let's Start Posting
On the way home from the rally, our group found ourselves "winging it" as we had no hotel reservation around the Mackinaw bridge. Later to find out that at the same time that we needed to find 3 rooms for the night...there was a old car show in St. Ignace and our chances of finding even a old "ma and pa" hotel were slim so we rode on and stopped at one hotel and the lady that owned it told us that there was a old ma and pa place 6 miles down the road ...and they did not have a working phone,so our chances looked pretty good as no one else could call there and make a reservation either !
We showed up and found a gal at the hotel (who happened to live in the house next door) at the front counter, I asked if she had 3 rooms ,and was told we could have as many as we wanted
A run down old place ...looking to have been built sometime after WW II let out,but at this point we would have settled for just about anything. !
We found the rooms to be clean and very large as compared to modern ,newer hotel rooms. We all settled in, then rode back 6 miles to a restaurant next to the lady that gave us the great lead on the hotel , turned out the lady owned the restaurant too ! We all had the "all you can eat " fish... your choice of cod or fresh lake Huron whitefish. We ate our fill then road back to the "Chapel Hill Hotel" sat around and chit chatted about the days adventure for awhile, then we all turned in for the night to get some rest for the next days 340 mile ride south.( even more for Gene and Loren). As I was laying in bed dozing off, I remember thinking that 4 years ago,I did not even know the people that we had such a nice vacation with, and joining the AVA has sure been a lot of good times !
Kick those riding boots off after a long day of riding ! Oh Yeah !
Yeah...the place needed a bit of work ! but we were happy to get the place that evening !
There across the road is the top of lake Michigan.
Easy to figure out why they named the place "Chapel Hill" way back when.

Re: Post Rally Pictures Let's Start Posting
Makes me wish the Rally was farther from my home. A mere 6 hours ride and I was home. No adventure. Next year is the same distance as well. But I do agree with you statement that the people make trip and the memories.

Re: Post Rally Pictures Let's Start Posting
Ah, Tony, you're just rubbing salt into my wounds! Fer sure, next year my Dr. had BETTER clear me to travel or I'll just have to break her rules.
I can sure relate to the four year comment! It's funny how having something in common that we all love doing can make us like an almost instant family, even having never met except online! About 15 years ago I started on the recumbent trike forums, like this. Today, most of my friends are from my trips across the U.S. attending rallies and long distance trike trips. Spent a week with a couple on Martha's Vineyard in 2008. The wife had done a San Diego to St.Augustine cross country trip, ALONE, so I met her in Springfield, MO as she was passing this area and spent an evening tuning up her trike for the rest of her trip. A month later she stayed with us for a week to learn about maintaining her own fleet of trikes for her tour business.
One of my bestest buddies from triking lives in Jacksonville, FL, and I've stayed with them several times, and vice-versa. We used to host what we called the Mini-Misery-Rally twice a year for four years with about 15-20 people showing up from all across the U.S. Most would camp on our lawn for the week.
People I would most likely have never met, or become friends with, just seem like family when we have a common life enjoyment! I'm sure if a few of my AVA friends lived next door we would be getting into so much trouble! So, maybe a single rally each year is the best! I just regret having missed the two of them since I joined the group! next year I hope to be in that pi of your little barefoot group!
Tony, if you had a pole in your hand I might call you Huck.
