Another brand newbie intro/question...

Been told that only replacing front/rear suspension will make the weaknesses of the remaining OEM, glaringly obvious... Both suspension systems work together: best to upgrade both, same time. The Progressive Fork Springs are nice... Cheers!

I'm sure that's true! My problem is that mechanically I am limited in my skilz...I can handle bolting-up the shocks, but get me into taking forks apart and it's game-over...that's where I bungle stuff up, and it costs me twice as much to get it done...my plan is to get the shox installed and then budget the Progressive springs and then the install fee for a proper mechanic to do it so it's once and done for me...

...which leads me to my next question: does anybody have a favorite bike mechanic in the Central Ca. Valley area that will do good work on an older bike like mine? I live in Manteca, but for a decent mech, I would drive a ways...

I have heard this numerous times on this forum. With the help and instructions from other members what seems impossible becomes a simple project.
Front forks is one of the scary things most have ,but by following the instructions here they appear to be just ordinary wrenching.
Ask a lot of questions and then give it a try.

Let me see how badly I snafu these shocks, I already see some questions I have, just from un-packing them...what are all these rings for? Are they inserts for a snug fit on top and bottom holes?

Actually that's a very good start.
Check the pics in Voyager55's post and get them lined up correctly.
I have read that the hardest part is removing the C-clip
Check the pics,that's a pretty nice home made prybar .Some people like to get a helper to hold the cap down while they remove the clip .
Follow the instruction and take some pictures as you go to help in reassembly.

Some makes of rear shocks come with various sized mounting bushings to accommodate the different mounting studs/bolt sizes, which is the ID of the bushing. The OD would all be the same for the shock upper eyelets and may also be the same OD for the lower eyelets.
