Kuryakyn ISO Grips
Does anyone know if the Kuryakyn ISO grip for a Goldwing with heated grips (the one that comes split and is bolted over the existing grip) can be installed on Voyager 12 with heated grips, even if some modification is required. When asked, Kuryakyn simply replied that they do not make a grip specific to this bike. I think the black chrome version of this grip would look great on a Voyager, and I know from trying a Goldwing with it, that it's very comfortable. I am just reluctant to take a relatively expensive gamble on fitment.

Apparently no one knows but I am curious to know myself as I need to replace mine very soon. Anyone with an answer please chime in.

Do you have any more dimensions on these grips? If they fit 7/8" bars they should work. I just installed with a lot of effort some grips I got off Ebay (Kuryakyn knock offs from China). Not heated but I had to find some I could adapt without too much trouble. The hardest thing was getting the bar end weights off. They wouldn't come off with an impact driver that only screwed up the phillips head. Applied heat and they still wouldn't budge. Finally I drilled out the phillips heads and used a vice grip to remove the remaining studs. Then I had to go down to a bolt place and get a pair of proper replacement bolts. Then I had to cut a half inch off each bar end to get these new grips to fit. I fought for an hour to get the cable ends back on the new throttle grip. And even after lubing the bar with silicone lubricant the new throttle will not move loosely. For now the bike sits in the garage till I can muster enough time and energy to pull that throttle side off again and ream the inside a millimeter larger so it will move freely. I suggest making sure the grips are long enough before you get started. They should be 5 1/2" long and have an open end for the bar weights to go back on. The weights quell vibration and makes sense to keep them on. BTW I paid $30 for them.

Re: Kuryakyn ISO Grips
Bear in mind that the alternator is rated at a max. output of 35 Amps @ 13.5 Volts @ 7,000 RPM. Be sure your alternator can handle the amperage draw. You might recover needed amperage by converting all lights to LED's, but you may not... Time to do some checking and see how many amps you can get freed up, and how many your heated grips will need.
Also, regardless of the math (Amps you determine will be available to power the grips), you will need to install a Voltmeter: the 35 Amps is the maximum output -- at 7,000 RPM! When your bike is idling, the voltage/amperage output will drop, and this can be very bad. You need real-time monitoring. Best of luck. Cheers!

Re: Kuryakyn ISO Grips
I still can't believe that a higher-output alternator hasn't been discovered for our Voyagers...there aren't ANY other alternators off any other cruisers that can be swapped-in with a bunch more output??

From what I understand the alternator is a standard Mitsubishi type alternator. Any alternator shop can put more windings on it and increase the power output. Beware of those on the internet trying to sell you modified alternators. Often they don't meet the output of what they say they do. Besides a local shop will guarantee their work.
