Looking for larger rear tire suggestion, larger? How?

New '03 Voyager owner here, just getting acquainted, it makes me wish I had another gear....

Is there any recommended larger rear tire size to get more distance per RPM? .. or is it
as I expect, put on a same stock size replacement and live with it? Thanks!!! Bill

... I'm a fan of Michelin Commander II's, how about the size to get???? IIRC, stock is 150/90-15, anyway I can go bigger around for more distance per RPM??? TIA

Realize that a larger diameter tire will affect your turning radius. I can't address handling, some using car tires have noted no change in handling but I am skeptical of those claims. RPM changes would by imperceptible.

The only option I am aware of is to go with a car tire. It knocks off about 300 rpm at 65mph. I have been running car tire for a couple of years now. Your right in being skeptical of those who say it does not effect handling. It does. It completely changes the balance between the front and back of the bike. I think at high speeds I prefer the handling much better. You have more ground clearance and can take advantage of having more lean available. Really the only time I would prefer not having the car tire is slower speeds like in a parking lot or riding in the bike games.

Thanks!!! I ran a car tire on my Nomad for 20K miles, the frame of the 'Nad was too weak for my taste, got into some Nast oscillations on windy daze passing semi's, etc.....

I'll just wait and see.... go with a Michelin Commander II and maybe next time!!! You're right, folks that never tried a car tire don't know what

So far, I'm satisfied with the car tire and from the looks of the tread; unless I start squeezing more miles in (oh how I wish), I'm good for another couple of years. When I was involved in "my car tire" try, a friend had a 06 Vulcan Classic V2K and he went CT because it was eating rears and was expensive. He went with a Goodyear Triple Tread and he had well over 40K on it last check and he loved it, IIRC he ran the pressure a tad >40psi. It was a uni-directional tire, IIRC, it was in the 205 range... my 1500 'Nad wouldn't hold that... If it works for you, take a look at that tire!!!!!

Thanks for the response!!! I looked at the Darkside tire database and only tire I saw used on the 1200 was a tiny tad smaller circumference and NOT what I'm looking for!!! GBG
